Two days ago lights came on and stayed on. What could be the problem? Checked gas cap. Recent oil change, no hose loose. Can I drive at least a week without causing any damage. Has anyone else had this problem and what was your solution.

 

There is an OBDII code in the computer that needs to be read. Autozone can do it for free (I heard not in California though) and then bring us the code. It might just be a lean error and you can probably drive on it for the time being (assuming you're not noticing anything wierd).

 

BOTH OF MY LIGHTS CAME ON AFTER FILLING UP AND TOPPING OFF THE GAS TANK WHILE THE IGNITION WAS RUNNING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH LEXUS ( 2 WEEKS ) AND THE LIGHTS WENT OFF BY THEMSELVES BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT !

 

The same thing happened to me after an oil change. It was a disconnected vacuum line. I know you said that you checked, but I would recheck. If you can't find one, I would make an appt with the dealer to have it checked..

 

Remove the gas cap, retighten, and drive a few times. It may go off.

 

I'd take it to the dealer if none of the suggestions fixed the problem.

 

If car is still under warranty, just take it in.

 

I'd recommend, maybe not yet for most of you, but for those of you who plan to keep your RXs for as long as I have (and I have a 99) to look into an OBDII scanner. You want one that has the CAN protocol, because then it will be usable with newer vehicles, primarily 2008+ as well as older ones that use OBDII, 1996 and newer. They've got those all over ebay and amazon among other places. Very easy to clear check engine lights and also look up to see what is going on. A few more advanced scanners (for more $$$) will check values on things like oxygen sensors, coolant temp.

Right now, I am looking into getting some OBDII software for my laptop to do more advanced diagnostics and am leaning toward a program like Digimoto to do this.

 

I do have an OBDII Scanner and it has saved me a buck or 2. I have been able to read te CEL on my Acura and was able to clear it. And passed my inspection. Fortunately the CEL was only a "POOR connection" of the O2 sensor. Yes, it is worth it.

 

I've read somewhere that a faulty brake-light switch can trigger those lights.

 

I went ahead and purchased OBDII software from GLM Software. It seems to be fairly reliable as it was recommended on ES/GS forum. A cable I got from ebay for $40. I haven't any need for it yet, no CEL or faults so far (knock on wood) but did a scan and it worked as designed. I can post screenshots if anyone is interested.

 

While driving my 04 today I hit a decent pot hole going into a parking lot and both the check engine light and the vsc light came on as well.. So just take it to autozone then and let them read what the codes are?

ok so the two codes i got were P0430 and P0303. i took off the gas cap and also topped off the tank since the lights came on and they are still on. i put the medium grade gas in it, would that make any difference? anyway, ive only had the vehicle for about a week and am not too familiar with it yet so any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance!!
