Default Audio Input

What's the simplest way to add an audio input to the 2008 RX350 (with nav)?

I know this has been discussed but seems like most solutions seem to point to some aftermarket box. Is there some reason that it can't be done with a simple connection to the wiring harness so it comes up on, say, the SAT choice on the OEM stereo? Or is it really necessary to have some gizmo to fool the system in some way?

Thank you LEXUS for not springing for a fifty cent 3.5mm jack this many years into the iPod era.

(I apologize for duplication if I didn't locate an existing answer.)

Sometimes I use the cassette deck and play my iPod through one of those inexpensive cassette adapters you can get a walmart. It sounds good enough for me. Most of the time I listen to MP3 discs that hold up to 150 songs each in the CD player.

I strongly suggest you get the VAIS Tech. system. It is totally worth it! I installed it myself (only 1/2 hour) and it works great! It has Aux. input so you will be able to charge your friends ipod/phone, etc. I connected my friends XM through the AUX with charging my ipod. So far everyone who's been in my car all love it.
