Default Side mirror cover paint damage

My driver side mirror cover is showing paint damage...peeling, discoloration, spots...signifying poor painting job.

I would replace it if I can buy just the cover, I know Lexus does not sell the cover alone. A new assemble is $400 plus the labor.

So, I am thinking of getting it painted, 2 options: 1) Have it painted, mask everything off; 2) Disassemble and get it painted.

Anybody has done this?

Anybody who has the same issue on their paint? The side mirrors and trim are made by other suppliers. Some of my trim pieces have discolored, too.

Obviously the suppliers have screwed up somewhere. Some of the owners probably did not realize this until the 4 year warranty was up.

But you can check:

Door handles
Back trim (above plate)
Side trim
Side mirrors

See if you can see discoloration and other paint defects....

why not get the LED covers and kill 2 birds with one stone? I have a large scratch on my passenger mirror cover and I was thinking I would get the LED covers as a cool mod and it would take care of the scratch at the same time (i think?)

the side plastic trim that runs along the doors to protect from dings is slightly fading (kinda looks navy blue, rx is painted black onyx) but you can only notice if its really sunny out and youre staring at it, like i do.

if anyone has bought the LED covers lately, which supplier did you buy from? Im looking for the factory paint matched ones that do not have to be modifed (left hand drive)

They're always available on Ebay from various stores! Good Luck

Led covers would be good but some work required to hook up the led signals. Getting the cover painted would be a lot less hassle. And 2ndly I have side repeaters already, I do not need led signals.

Take the mirror off, get it painted, and reinstall. This way you will not have any chance of over spray on the vehicle.

I think you are right, I will get overspray. I found out the hard way, I sprayed on a ceiling fan inside the garage, the paint oversprayed on my TL.

To this day, you will see tiny dots...resembling paint. Without claying it, it will be there forever.

I do not have a choice but to take it off and then, paint it, put it back on.

I have to study how to tear it down.

Now I am on the right path!

Thanks.
