Hi Everyone - my first post on this board, and after reading a lot of the threads, this looked like where I could get some good answers and feedback.
My 2006 RX330, when put in reverse, the right side mirror goes down so I am able to see the lines in a parking space, but left side moves minimally. When in Reverse, I have adjusted the mirrors, hoping they would remain that way, but to no avail.
Take it to the dealer and get it replaced under warranty. Hopefully you still have warranty on your car. Both mirrors should tilt down equally. My 04 always tilted equally left and right. I have read other posts here about faulty tilting mirrors before.
Are you sure that is malfunctioning? My 2005 RX has done this since new. You can easily see the curb from the right side mirror when backing up but the left side only moves down minimally. I have no issue with this since I beleive it to be normal and I only need to see the curb on the right side. If I need to see the curb on the left side, I look out of the window! Not that it matters, but this is the exact same way that my 2007 BMW works - left down a little, right down enough to see the ground.
I have the same issue on my 08 RX350. When I picked it up new they both tilted equally. I read in a thread somewhere this is a common issue and repairable. I will be taking mine in to Lexus soon.
my has been doing that since i got the car in 2003. that is normal. the idea is that when you are sitting in the driver's seat, your perspective should allow you to see the ground, though this clearly isnt the case for some.
Well, if you think about it, your face is closer to the drivers side mirror so you will have more visibility when you move your head so it moving down slightly less than the right makes sense. That's also why they make / made the right side mirror with magnification.
My left only lowers slightly and I'm fine with it...
They should both go down pretty far. They do on my 07 RX350. I did have a problem, like you describe, on the passengers side. The dealer had to replace the entire mirror to correct it. Now both go all the way down.
If you're not under warranty I'd live with it - they replace the entire painted mirror assembly and the cost must be high.
When I first noticed this, I did move the mirror back and forth with the dash buttons to it's upper and lower extremes and it seemed to clear it up for a while. I think the sensors in the mirror get dirty and cause the problem and moving them back and forth may clean them a little bit.
Update: Got back from my local Lexus dealership (Lujack Lexus of the Quad Cities) and they have ordered me a new right mirror. So, for all of you out there who's mirrors do not tilt down when put in reverse - there is a problem (unless you do not care) and under warranty, they will change the mirror. Thanks to everyone who responded.
