Default driver side mirror hit and run

I wasnt' sure under which forum to place this under but I have 06 GS 430 that I took in to the glendale dealer for 2 recalls and 1 warranty repair. I got a RX loaner which when I took home i had to park on the street for few hours because I didn't have a garage opener with me (I use homelink). When I came back someone hit my side mirror so that the plastic casing around the mirror crack and came off (very small portion).

Well it turns out that their insurance won't cover it because it wasn't my fault and my insurance won't cover it under uninsured motorist because I can't identify the car or person that did the damage. So now i'm responsible for the $500 deductible. Supposed the person helping me out tried really hard to get the price down to $590ish from $600 something. they say that the can't just replace plasitic because Lexus only has the whole mirror but that costs includes labor. But I read somewhere on here that they do have the plastic casing for like $70 or so. Can someone help me out here if this is true or if i'm getting screwed?

man, this is the most expense free recall and warranty repair...

thanks for any help you can provide.

Did you try your home owners insurance?

Great idea, we had a car broken into a few years ago & our homeowners cover some of it.

Try that homeowner thing. But basically, you just need the cover. The labor to replace the cover only is more than just to replace the whole assembly, which what Lexus will do.

Either way, sorry, you will spend the $500. Next time, pay for the insurance for the loaner, ask Lexus. For a little amount of money, you can rest easy, if they will actually offer it.

Don't have homeowner's ins. I didn't even know lexus offers ins. as they never asked me. I thought they just use their own. Their insurance told me they only cover me if it was my fault???

Home owner typically applies to unbolted-down equipment in the vehicle. The other issue would have been if the vehicle was garaged on premises.

Check with Lexus if they plan to stick you with "loss of use" [rental companies do] and then the time spent looking for a used part is not worth the saving.

The rental part from Lexus has a declaration that either you accept or decline some insurance coverage(s).

They're not charging me for loss of use, which is how they brought the price down to $590. I don't see why there should be a loss of use anyways. It's literally about 1 inch of plastic that chipped off. The mirror motor and everything works fine. I asked them if they could bring the price down further. We'll see what they can do for. This is just an extra expense i don't need right now while unemployed.
