Default Engine start button kit

Guys, have you try this kit? Will this modify the electronic system of my Rx 330 2004?

I hope this provide some insight ..

The ignition switch provides "start" signal to the starter and dis-engages aux-power {there is significant/damaging spike out of the alternator**.
Other than the "start" it keep the "run" signal [opposite of off -> ignition-kill (shuts the engine down**. The "run" condition is further qualified with "registered-chip-id" of the starting key.

One more function provided by the ignition key is release of steering lock.

With this bigger picture, see what the item you intend to purchase provides
a) start
b) Kill aux power
c) provide "run" or not off
d) chip id match
e) Steering lock

I think your link is more of a "show" than the real thing. If you set it up, you will compromise on security and most probably tapping/splicing wiring harness.

[Note: the steering lock is a hold over from older times. It was done to prevent theives from "hot-wiring the car". The chip-id provides an electronic way of preventing hot wiring.]

Salim, many thanks for your thoughts! I think I will keep my original system!

Thanks again!

Yeah judging from the picture and the price, that probably won't detect when to unlock the doors when you are nearby. Basically, if a thief breaks in he can just push the button to start your car because there is no security function to the item, unlike the new 2010 RX remote start which will only start when the "remote" is nearby.

This may not be the place, but you guys sound like you know your stuff. Tonight, Since we had to Valet my car, I put the FOB Key in the ignition. Later, on the way home my wife needed to run into store as also I was on the Bluetooth talking to a friend, so I just turned the engine to "OFF", but left the key on so I would not lose my friend on the phone. When my wife came out, I turned the key to "START" and it spun like a top but would not start. I repeated this about 3-4 times and it finally started. Any ideas if the Anti-Theft System didn't like me leaving the key "ON" without starting the car, or any other ideas would be appreciated. It "Seems" to be working normally now, but now I'm wondering when it's going to happen again.

Thanks for any advice.
