Default DIY Coolant flush?

I tried searching but couldn't find one. Car is a rx330.

What type coolant needs to be used, just Prestone or does it have to be Toyota/Lexus? How many gallons do I need?

When does the thermostat need to be changed? If it's not too much longer, I might as well change it now while the coolant is already drained....car has 65-70k miles

Can't be too hard. Find the drain on the bottom of the radiator. Drain/flush and refill with 50/50 mixture.

Ok, I'm used to Hondas so I was just making sure. What type coolant needs to be used, just Prestone or does it have to be Toyota/Lexus? How many gallons do I need?

what color coolant is their right now? If its green. Uncap the radiator cap and put the garden hose in there. Then open the coolant drain plug. Turn on the car and set the heater to high. Then just wait till the car is warmed up and all the green coolant is gone.

Refil with toyota red coolant 50/50 mix. IF your car already has red coolant, then a simple drain and refill will work.

Toyota uses long life coolant. Is it time to drain and fill? I can understand if you have 48K and want to do a drain and fill. What's your mileage?

Ok, time for drain and fill. Get the Toyota Long life coolant, pre-mixed, RED in color. Drain the radiator and then fill.

Go to the Zerex website (my preferred coolant, btw) http://www.valvoline.com/zerex/ and click on the "Click here to find the chemistry ..." icon to find the right coolant. You CAN pick the wrong coolant if you ask someone who says "just use Prestone" etc. Iirc, there are three distinct chemical compositions for coolants and you must use the proper one. The dealers have the right stuff but you are paying a premium for them to premix your coolant with water. I don't have my car right here but I believe the coolant quantity is in the owner's manual isn't it? What I do when I change coolant (haven't needed it yet on the RX) is to drop the block drain plug, the radiator plug and the bottom radiator hose. I then run my hose into the block and flush until it comes out clean. I reinstall the block drain, the bottom hose, and the radiator draing plug. Let's say the coolant capacity is 16 quarts. I fill the radiator with 8 quarts of coolant and then start adding distilled water with the engine running. When the thermostat opens I continue to add distilled water until it is topped off. By adding the coolant first I know that my mixture is 50%. I only change my thermostat when they indicate that they aren't functioning normally.

Hmmm, I thought I gave you a clue where that info might be when I said "I don't have my car right here but I believe the coolant quantity is in the owner's manual isn't it?".

Do you know if that is for a complete radiator and engine block flush or just radiator?

Just remember that the coolant in many states is treated as a hazardous waste. Do not get caught letting it hit the ground without cleaning it up. The coolant is also a poison to animals and humans.
