Was thinking about getting a set of hyper black rims for my RX
The thing is, the roads in the UK are pretty rough. The ride on the stock rims is very good -- I was wondering what you guys think would be the max size I could go to with the custom rims without ruining the ride quality ?
Because the RX is a 4x4 will this mean that inherently you can get away with larger wheels without ruining ride quality as much ?
Hope the above makes sense !

If ride comfort is a high priority I would stick with 18" rims. Not sure if you are running the stock 17 or 18. I'm one that had a lot of stiff sports suspension type cars so I don't mind a stiff ride at all and actually like a more firm suspension. However, I was able to tell a difference between my stock 17 and my 20" rims.
I would say 20" would be max and 19" probably wouldn't add too much comfort back into the car since you can run the same profile tires on either. With a thicker profile tire, you are running a higher over all diameter but even on my 20" rims with 50 series tires my speedometer was only off by a max of 2 MPH at 60 when measured with a GPS so I wasn't worried about it.

Pole Position
for comfort and custom wheel. get 18x8.5 or 18x9 wheels with 245/55s. youll have better traction/grip on the road

i agree with ikon. when i got mine it had 18's with 255/55. great ride. it will work well on rough roads. same combo was on another ride in nyc and trust me i dont think there are any worse roads than there!!!!

I feel the comfort range is staying with in the 50mm's. I prefer not to go below 50mm. I have 19x8 rims with 255x50x19's and I do not feel the ride has changed at all as far as comfort.
You can see pictures of this set up on my thread. 2009 JUST PURCHASED.

Just for clarification. The tires sidewall prophile height is not represented in milimeters. It is represented as a percenrage (%) of the width of the tires tread. So, a 255/50/19 tire will have a sidewall height of 50% of 255mm or 127.5 mm.Originally Posted by ZIN
