Default Remote Start - anyone with one ??

Local shop installed a remote starter on my new -08 RX350....it works fine...
BUT...they disconnected the battery during the install and now:
the SRS airbag light stays 'on', and the windows do not operate (except for the drivers).... it appears that the problems were caused by disconnecting the battery.... they talked to "a Lexus service rep" somewhere and could not remedy the problem. (this included de-installing the remote starter) --- Any guesses? --- I would think this situation would be just like a regular dead-battery problem. ((I'm 150 miles from any dealer and this sounds like a simple fix!!))

Windows:
If it is the one touch raise issue then do a search and or read the manual to reset the pinch protection. If the switch does not even move the window, some one will have to trace and see what got cut or someone forgot to connect a connector.

SRS:

Some one posted they had luck with disconnecting battery for 1/2 hr or so. Else the dealer has to reset it for you.

I have seen more problems related to remote start.

Living here in central Texas, I can't appreciate the advantages of having one.

The dealer {if they install one ** is redirecting the work to a known entity and they make their cut. Lexus corp has nothing to do with it.

When I asked my dealer about a remote start for my '04 RX330, purchased CPO (in '06) he said that he wished that Lexus would make one for him to install, but that his shop does not install them because he has had many customers come in for service after having them installed elsewhere. He said to me that the basic problem was that the electrical/computer system in the RX is so complex that many installations cause strange problems, such as lights that come one and won't go out, or other electrical problems. Every installation seems to be different. So I passed on the whole idea.

When I bought my '05 I paid the dealer to install a remote start (Audiovox). I paid a premium for it but I wanted to be able to have the dealer resolve any issues. 3 years later and I've had no problems. This is my third remote start and wouldn't consider a car without one. Living in Chicago the remote start has been a plus in both winter and summer.

ZIN -
I paid right at $300. The unit is a "AstroStart", model RS-611, as I recall.
Unit was around $180, and installation was the remainder. The local shop that I used specializes auto electronics, not a big-box retailer. They previously installed a remote starter in 4 other vehicles for me. (And a lot of ham radio equipment too.)

I seem to recall the cost was around $600. I added the ability to call an 800# to start the car. Because I travel frequently, the 800# allows me to start the car when I board the airport transit rather than waiting until I can see the car. By the time I get to the car it is toasty warm or cool. It is also handy when you are at a restaurant or other location that limits the ability to use the remote to start the car. I setup a speed dial on my cell phone that dials the 800# and enters the appropriate codes.

Paid around $250 for mine, with some haggling. It's been working alright since I got it in Dec.

$200.00,$400.00, $600.00 Thats a pretty big range there.. Can we find out how much your installation was and where you had it done because going through Lexus would be best I would think but my dealer does not install them.So knowing there are different models out there it would be nice to hear what models are beings used and who is installing them .
Nobody wants to end up with electrical problems .

Default Problem SOLVED

My problem is solved. Dealer found a connector (going to an air bag) to be insecure. The problem was not caused by a disconnected battery, and the window indexing was a easy fix. Air bag Fault Warning was due to the installer of the remote-start. So...local shop will re-install the device and PAY ME $221 to cover the dealer's $135 charge and my mileage.

Everything fixed! Shop re-installed the remote start today and gave me a check for $221.. .(see previous post)... now, everything works fine.
This was the 5th remote-starter that this shop has installed for me over the last ten years.

Default Security light on all the time

We have an Astro Start remote starter installed on our '06 RX 330. Everything works fine except for the security light on the dash ... it remains "on" (lit) all the time. No flashing when engaged, or turned off when driving -- instead it stays on all the time. Anyone else had that problem? Astro Start told our dealer (Toyota) they don't know how to fix that problem? Tips/ideas are welcomed. Thx.
