Ouch!! That's going to be a bit serious depending on how badly the body may be tweaked. Since our RX's are not body-on-frame, damages like this can be extensive. Wishing you luck, and hope your insurance company can go after the 18 wheeler for negligence.
If the A-pillar is bent, that means the cowl is pushed back and that's pretty severe unibody damage. Is the front wheel (right side) back from where it's supposed to be? Does the passenger front door open and close or is it sagging? Is the roof wrinkled? Do the doors fit correctly on the driver's side?
If it's just the nose, windshield and a scrape on the pillar (as opposed to the pillar buckling from the front end being pushed back), I'd guess they'll fix it. It's new and they'll spend a lot to fix it. I hope it works out for you. The main thing is you're not hurt. From the description of the accident, you could have been killed. Good luck.
It doesn't appear that the air bags deployed. Based on the extent of the damage from the picture, I would have throught the air bags should have deployed.
man! i am glad you are ok. i do not get how the air bags would not deploy on something like that where you hit something in the front. let us know what the insurance company says.
I have seen at least one Rav4 toasted at the dealer down here like that and my good friend who is head of the service department told me the insurance company had declared a total on that, so let's see how it turns out for you.
18 wheelers and other sorts of trucks and vehicles parked on the road are commonplace down here. If it weren't for my driving abilities and the quality workmanship of my vehicle and its modifications, I'd be a moderator up above.
A curiousity question; were you wearing a seatbelt? If memory serves, there was another thread awhile back that had indicated the air bags didn't deploy on a person's RX because she wasn't wearing her seatbelt.
I would hope they total it as that is substantial damage. If the frame and that A pillar are not bent though they may try and repair it. It will cost a lot. I would just guess over $25K in repair.
that does seem pretty bad. looks like the a pillar is bent outwords, away from the car. im going to say a total, just because it seems like the whole front/right side needs to be fixed
I can't imagine that this thing won't be totalled.
I am betting that the airbags didn't go off because the impact zone is probably the area behind the bumper-like bar and the ignitors are located there.
