Years ago when cars first started having computers in them, you would plug a 9 volt battery into the cigarette lighter to preserve the memory when disconnecting the battery. Will that save the settings now?

I have one of those portable battery jump boxes that has the socket like a cigeraette lighter and a plug with the male end on both ends. Just plug it into the cigarette lighter and it will hold all your settings. Some cars you have to turn on the ignition for the cigarette lighter plug to be hot. Be sure to keep the positive battery cable covered as not to short everything out. I just put a leather glove over the Pos lead and tape it on so it won't fall off.

RX300 has switched cig-lighter [Key must be in acc or run]. To get standby juice through the lighter, one has to turn the key.
For the standby power from 9v battery may not be enough once you insert the key.
RX300+ models may be different, but I would check things out before plunking down the money.
Hint: I always bring the seats and other programable things in the "desired" location before removing battery. The first thing I do on connecting the battery is hit the learn button.
