Sucks for RX fans but yah! for resale value. At least you get to have the latest body style for the longest amount of time possible, but the RX is so outdated compared to the MDX. I would suspect that there will be no changes for 09, but then again, Toyota usually does something extra as incentive the last year of a body style. But I thought the chrome door handles, new rims, and front fender were the incentive for the 08's before being replaced.
The RX is the least luxurious of all the Lexus cars now. I just bought a 08 GS350 and the little things like push button start make a big difference. The 07 RX350 that we have will be returned at lease end instead of being purchased for a 2010 RX.
I have been trying to get a 2009 RX brochure and the dealers in my area do not have them yet. I even tried to call Lexus headquarters and they said that they do not have them.
Yet Lexus still manage to sell almost twice as much RX as the MDX.
Of course, I'm not saying that the RX is bad, when we purchase the 07 RX350 for my wife, we test drove the new MDX and I love it, it was sporty, had cool options that the RX doesn't offer but when my wife drove the RX she said the car was smoother, more refined, easier to turn the steering wheel and it has that Lexus quality feel. She wanted the RX even though I begged her to buy the MDX. As long as the ladies prefer the RX it will always sell well, too well, damn it, that they are not redesigning the car until 2010. When we were purchasing my 08 GS350 last week for the december to remember sale, we test drove all the cars, even the new LX570. I would say the two least luxurious cars were the RX and and then GX, mainly because those two still use keys and not the push button start and a couple of things that need to be added to bring the cars up to par with the others Lexus cars.
The reason that the MDX is outsold by the RX is that it's "too big." It's not Suburban big, but it's too big for most people nowadays that want smaller SUV's. They want a "4x4" but still don't want to offend the environmentalists... too much atleast. I have not riden in the current MDX, but the previous MDX just was not luxurious at all. It was basically a glorified Honda interior. The faux wood looked fake, glove box was cheapo feel, and drive was too spongy to be a SPORT utility vehicle. I'm sure the current MDX is much better, but size is still about 20% too big.
