Hey guys I did some research but could not find any oem seat cover for my 04 rx330.

I found some third party sites which do custom made seat covers to fit but I dont trust those. And they cost 200+.

Does Lexus have any available? or does anyone have seat covers on just the front two seats?

If the side of your seat backs have a little tag that says "SRS Side Air Bag", Don't mess with it.

 

Ill check to see if it has the side air bag today.

 

They make seat covers for cars with side airbags, but any good seat cover will cost you $200+

 

And you want seat covers for? Just to protect the leather? Or your seats are already a mess and wwwant to hide?

 

I talked with my mechanic about sheep skin covers. He said that the outside backrest stitching down the side needs to be cut out and strips of Velcro put in to hold it closed. That will let the seat mounted air bag work.

 

To protect the leather, I plan on keeping the RX for a while. Leather is in mint condition and I want to keep it that way.

And it does have side airbags so I would have to opt for the velcro thing. Anyone know somewhere reputable that I can go to? or order from?

 

Can not blame you on protecting the leather, they do wear out. Sooner than you want. I would invest in a nice cover....

 

I don't get it; leather is a low maintenance item. Why do you want to "protect" it with cloth?? I'm on my 3rd car with leather seats and it wears like iron. BTW, it's only the seating surface that is acutally leather. The sides and back are vinyl. All you need do to make it last the life of the car is wipe up the spills immediately, keep the sun off it by closing your sun roof shade when not in the car, treat the leather once a year and keep it from being punctured.

Most of my living room seating furniture is leather as well. You buy that for the wear/longevity. Reminds me of my Italian friend in High School; his folks had lviing room furniture with plastic covers all over it; they never used it.

As stated above, the side air bags in the seats are designed to penetrated the factory cover and protect you. Putting a cover over that reduces the function and risks your life. Velcro is pretty strong and would absorb some of the actuating force of the bag, delaying opening. maybe just enough to do prevent serious injury.

 

if you want to get good seat covers, I would highly recommend Wet Okoles. Do a search on this forum, this has been discussed before.

 

I would not modify any seat cover to make it compatible with the side air bag.

 

I emailed a Lexus dealer and they quoted me $675.00 + tax for 2 front seat covers.

I almost had a heart attack reading the price. And this does NOT include the covers for the headrest. This is insane!! I think Im gonna go with that stuff from Hawaii (wet okoles i think)

 

Sheep skin covers (quality ones) from Costco are designed for seats with side airbags. They are $90 each and are 100% real sheep skin with leather magazine pocket in the rear.

 

as others have said... leather is not too hard to maintain...

I have a volvo which is 10 yrs old... until the day its totalled... the leather is still in good shape...

you paid for it... why not enjoy it ?? just try not to puncture it...
spend $30... get the lexus leather conditioner / cleaner...
treat it twice a yr... should be good enough...

if you do buy a cover... and somehow it does not fit right... not covering tightly...
the fiction between the cover and the leather might actually wear off the leather faster... and since its covered... you'd never know....

I would say... enjoy the leather for a few yrs... and if the leather does wears out... then covers it.... prices would gone down by then..... or you might already in position to just trade in your old car to a new lexus !!...

Leather looks and feels smooth and it smells good too. Sheep skin is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It's an individual taste. Me, I like skins. They make me feel all snugly and fuzzy. Ho Ho Ho.
