Default Do rain sensing wipers really work?

I am going to be buying an RX350 in a few weeks. I am curious if the rain sensing wipers really work. Do you really not need to manually adjust the wiper speed? Will the wipers come on automatically once it starts to rain or does it only adjust the speed?

They work. If you have it on automatic, it's automatic. speed will adjust.

They work but not the way I like. They look spastic, wiping when they sense rain on the windshield. I still prefer to adjust a setting on the stalk but it is what it is.

I would say that they work about 75% of the time, with the other times requiring some fine tuning by me. Most of the time it is in very light rain (not wiping often enough) or heavy rain.

I am not sure how it works on other model or year but it works great on my 07 RX350. I love it and like Booyah, I have not taken it of Auto.

They work, but like a few have stated not they way I like. Generally they work well in heavier rain as they wipe more often or all the time, but in lighter rain they seem to wipe too often for my taste even at the least sensitive setting. Even my BMW rain sensing wipers wipe too often for me so it is not just the Lexus. It could be just my personal preference though.

Mine work extremely well, although not always exactly as I would like - but as emjay said, about 75% of the time they are fine.

The sensor works by shining a bit of IR light up through the glass and looking for the appropriate amount (selected by your + - control) of backscatter from droplets on the surface. Droplets have to land in just the right place to count.

The sensor area behind the mirror mount has to get just the right amount of rain on it to trigger the wipers, and if chance doesn't put the requisite raindrops on the sensor, they sit and wait for it. No water, no wipe.

A good application of a product like Rain-X to the windows and windshield will help bead up the raindrops and clear them away - even without the wipers.

I love the auto wipers. I set them and forget them. They wipe at the speed I like all the time. Even when passing trucks on a wet freeway they automatically adjust for the heavier spray. Mist mode works perfectly for me too.

in my previous post, i said i loved them and that they worked great.

there are these rare times when they just go crazy though and just wipe at the fastest speed. but take them off auto and then back and it fixed itself. also steam on the windshield makes them go too

Good stuff though

Pretty much what others have already stated, great about 75-80% of the time. Much preferred to the older intermittent type wipers. Love the way they adjust wiping speed for conditions too.
