Default 6.1 Nav Maps...How old are they?

I took a short trip Saturday and decided to plug the address in the nav system, on the way it kept trying to route me in a longer direction which I disregarded because I knew the general direction to go. I soon realized why it had a section of the road missing . The road has been completed for 5 years (or more) so I started wondering how up to date is the maps in the 6.1 nav system? As you know this is not a cheap system and if it is not as up to date as a $400 tom-tom what gives with Lexus. I have a 2008 that I bought in June so I would expect the maps to be somewhat up to date, any thoughts? Should I ask the dealer for a update or is that going to be a waste of time?

Other than that it brought me right to the door step.

As a reference my C-6 Corvette has nav and its maps are more up to date than the Lexus, also it displays in 3d which is nice.

the data is always old, and i don't know who supplies their map data but i was in the same boat as you - i live in a newer area, and when i got my RX in Mar 03, my house and street were not on there, and they had been built in 2000. i upgraded to the 05 disc about 3 years later and finally the info was on there, so yes, i would say 5 years is about the time frame for certain areas.

what's weird is that i dont' live in the boonies. i live in san diego where there is a lot of expansion so i don't know why they can't get more accurate map data.

Default They are OLD!

I'm not sure of the age, but I live in SoCal and so many of the areas I drive near my home are off the map (no roads). It also shows nearby eateries that have been out of business since the late 1990's. I'm sure it's not easy to remap the entire country quickly, so I just live with it.

It is better then the Nav I had in my 2007 Infiniti. It said I worked next door to SeaWorld and many times wanted me to turn the wrong way down one-way streets.

Default That's what I thought

Thanks for the replies, it confirms what I thought, I guess when they do get an upgrade it will cost "mucho deniro", probably more than what a stand alone after market unit would cost , oh well, live and learn , live and learn.

Probably the new RX will have a nav system like Acura uses and will not be "backward" compatiable with current nav systems leaving us with an old outdated system that as time goes by is pretty much useless. Sometime high tech is not.

True, my portable Garmin Nuvi have the newer streets and highways that the latest Lexus Nav dont have.
