Default Are keys under warrenty?

My key broke off right in the ignition. Fortunately I was able to get it out as it broke out of the housing. I know you can get them off ebay, will a local locksmith cut it for me? Thanks!

It should be under warrenty, keys are not a wear and tear item.

Wow, how'd that happen? Did you notice the blade portion getting loose prior to it breaking off?

the housing had a crack before and when I started it up, the case cracked even more and came off. The key itself is fine, its just the housing then is split.

Usually the shell brakes when the keys are dropped. So if some one can convince that the problem was manufacturing defect or the dealership wants to keep a happy customer, you may get a gratis key.

I got my key replaced under warranty. So unless they can prove you purposely brok the key then it will be covered under warranty

I agree! Putting a key in a slot and turning it takes too much effort and should not be allowed on a Luxury vehicle! Also, what is up with having to turn the steering wheel and pushing on the gas and brake pedal? For a luxury brand they make the customer work too hard ! If they can make cars that park themselves surely they can make cars that drive themselves and we should unite and demand it!

Broken case on the key is under warranty, 4 years, 50K, after that, you are on your own. But it has been discussed before, the key shell's design is bad, structurally. Push button would be the way to go! Do the 08's have the same key design? I would imagine so.

i know you are being sarcastic, but until you drive a lexus model other then the RX that has push button igntion, then you will realize how convenient it is. I dont know how many times ive walked to my car and i have my hands full or i cant find the key right away and have to fumble around looking for it. Same thing when actually in the car itself. so much easier, and for the price i dont see why lexus didnt add it to at least the rx350's.

Well, cheap it was 'cheap' shot at humor, my Corvette C-6 is keyless, walk up to the car and it unlocks, get in an push a button and you are on your way. Nice, but a must have, I think not. One more thing, you still have to open the door yourself, now that might be a strain for some, luxury or not!
