Default Strange Noise

I was in my garage last night and I heard a humming or buzzing and it was coming from underneath my wife's RX350 toward the rear I think, which hadn't been driven for about 8 hours. It kind of sound like it was re-pressuring or something. Have any of you heard this noise and do any of you guys know what is making the noise?

Was the key inserted (not necessarily turned to Acc/run etc). The fuel pump etc gets energized to get ready to run.

No, the key wasn't inserted. The sound lasted for a minute or so. It's just weird that there was some activity going on in the vehicle after not being driven for several hours.

Could it be from the adjustable air suspension?

I believe there is a fuel vapor evacuation pump that runs several hours after shutdown.

That doesn't sound too safe in an enclosed garage (even if the garage is vented).

I think it just evacuates it to the charcoal canister, not that I'd worry about it, anyway.

As long as you dont smell any gas fume, it will be fine.

No adjustable air suspension, but I guess it may be that fuel vapor evacuation pump that jim256 was talking about. Thanks for the information! That cures my curiosity!

I don't know about the RX 350 but the 400h makes all kinds of noises. When my sons come through the garage late at night it used to spook them out!

Default I just had the same thing

I just heard this noise on my wifes 08 350 and searched this forum and found this thread.

Anyone else talked to their service advisor?

Sound is somewhere above the rear wheels towards the center of the car. I was wondering too if it would be the fuel pump.

Car was off for 6 hours and I was just walking through the garage. My wife has been hearing it for a couple of days and tried to tell me there was a bug in the garage somewhere.

Similar thing occurred to my car. My father in-law and my wife was telling me how they've been hearing a buzzing refrigerator-like sound coming from the car, after it's been off for a while.
