Default First oil change

Hi

I know that the first oil change is free and should be change at 5K.

I bought my RX350 for the wife in Oct and now she only have 2.6K on it. I would say it might reach 5K maybe sometime end of the year.

Is this just too long for the first oil change or it's normal?

thanks

Actually I believe the recommended schedule is 5,000 miles OR 6 months. Then the rest follow the same pattern. Add 5,000 OR 6 months for the following checks. Personally, I'd stick to the timing as opposed to the mileage in your case. Think about it this way, you bought a kewl car and you want to keep it that way. Plus, it gives you and them an 'opportunity' to review and maybe resolve any problems you're having with the car at the same time.

Take it in on the 6th month. Good timing for them to address any other issues that may occur. Again, keep a close eye on things that you might think are not working per your understanding, then mention it on your visit.

I would settle on the six month period. However, if her 2.6K has been all heavy stop-n-go, traffic jam, heat of the day driving, then maybe every 3K or so may be in order. If her driving is highway speeds all the time, then a longer mileage interval may suffice.

I changed my oil when it hit 1k. There was some tiny pieces of metal when I drained it out. Then, brought it in at 5k to have it changed again. Call your dealer and ask what kind of oil they use. Every dealer uses a different brand. I went with the dealer that put Castrol Synthetic Blend.

There was one dealership that used Halvoline.

I'm now using full synthetic...Mobil 1.

Synthetic if you are keeping the car for a long time, you will reap the benefit.
