Can a 07 Rx 350 drivers seat change to the key being used?

For Example: When pressing unlock on key #1 the seat moves to memory one. And when you press unlock on key #2 it moves the seat from memory one to memory two.

If somone knows how to make this work rather than pressing the memory button on the drivers door to move the seats.please help.

 

Certainly would be a nice feature but how bad is it to hit the button?

The new key trend is, key in pocket ... you do not even touch it when you want to enter and start the vehicle.

My reference was, that what you ask for is a nice feature, but another trend has already overtaken and set us off in a different direction.

Natural improvement would be perosnal id or key based (similar to what you desire) id. That should not only change seat position but also entertainment/HVAC settings and even driving habits based memory.

If we ever go into the world of personal id [and it becomes a standard] the whole world would/could see a transformation but there are strong ethical questions and personal freedom issues and it just may not be worth it. [This discussoin belongs in a differnt forum but the thought is interesting]

i'd rather have them make the seats more supportive and make it so the front seats can go back father for taller drivers.

 

Several cars in the past few years have had the feature you are describing: each key was coded differently, and when used in the car, would change the seat position, mirrors, wheel, even the radio settings.

In practice, however, what sounded good in theory was a disaster in real households, because it seems that most families do not assign a key to a specific driver, nor do they want to. For the most part, all the drivers use the same key, which hangs on the hook by the door. The spare usually just kept with all the other spare keys. So drivers became very annoyed when seat and mirror positions, etc, would not set themselves as they expected. A lot of owners didn't know about the feature, and fewer knew how to or wanted to bother to set it up. The dealers were flooded with complaints and as far as I know, hardly any cars offer it anymore.

The new trick is the key that you just keep in your pocket or purse, and the door unlocks as you approach the car and the start button on the dash is activated and ready for you to push to start the engine. You never have to touch the key.

Sounds good in theory.

 

Our IS has this feature (also has the 'smart key'). If I approach the car carrying my key fob, the drivers seat, steering wheel etc. all adjust to my setting. When my wife drives it, it adjusts to her settings. This would be terrific in the RX and I get spoiled when I get to drive the IS for any period of time (my dear wife allows me to operate the car if my behavior is deemed to be appropriate).

 

That's pretty cool. Was wondering, what happens if both you and your wife get in the car each having a key fob? Does it know who the driver is?

 

Oddly enough, this has happened, we have both had our 'fobs' with us and typically I open the door for my wife, and then I go around and get in, in these situations the seat has been adjusted for me. Haven't had the chance to try it the other way around, as when we are together I usually drive.
