Hi,

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try a few tanks of 93 octane and see if you don't get better mpg.. With our '04 RX330 we get about 1-2 mpg better, runs smoother too.

As you state that the manual says 20 MPG, I will assume you have the FWD RX. If you look at the newly reformulated EPA gas mileage numbers, they have gone back through the years and recalculated the values using the new system, you will see your RX is now only rated for 17 MPG in the city.

Sounds like you are dead on.

The new numbers look more realistic from the looks of things. However, as they say, "your mileage may vary."

I get 20-21 MPG in city driving and 25-26 MPG on the freeway at 75-80 MPH. My 04 RX is an AWD and I burn 91 octane gas. Over 30,000 miles I've averaged 22 MPG.

With 87 Octane in my AWD 2004, I get 18-19 in the city, and about 22-27 on the highway. It is delivering what the sticker said (18city/24hwy) I notice no difference with higher octane in performance or mileage, just to the wallet

With the new way they calculate mpg stickers, my car today probably would have been stickered 17/23

I have found that the computer is usually about 1 mpg higher than reality, if you do the math yourself at the pump.

I'm getting a little under 19 MPG in the city, on 87 octane (2004 AWD).
This is calculated from miles and gallons - the trip computer reports
~19.5 for the same period.

On our 05 AWD, we tend to average about 23+ on the highway and about 17-18 about town. Hasn’t varied a whole lot in the 22k miles we've driven it.

Hi all,
I am sorry for not thanking you all for wonderful help. I appreciate it. After I read all the responses, I have started using 91 oct and guess what??? my milage went up by 3mi/gl and I am happy. I am getting around 20 & 20.5 in city, which seems to be OK as per the help I rec'd here.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have one more question. I purchase my vehicle as CERTIFIED and after three months, a letter from dealer shows up saying there was clerical mistake and my vehicle did not get CERTIFIED and in apology dealer has bought me a LEXUS EXTRA CARE (PLATINUM) which is good for extra three months than CERTIFIED. When I questioned dealer, he states, they recorded date of certification after the vehicle sale date and this is the reason it did not get CERTIFIED and he guarantee's there is no problem with my vehicle. Does anybody has this exp?

Does any of use have any idea of LEXUS EXTRA CARE - platinum? Is this better than CERTIFIED?

Thanks once again
JT

When I bought my CPO last summer, the dealer told me that the CPO warranty terms were less extensive than the original 4 year warranty terms, but equal to the Platinum (highest) level of Lexus Extended Warranty.

I did not do any research to verify this assertion, but if it is correct, then the provision of a Platinum Warranty would be the same thing as CPO.

If the dealership thought it was CPO at the time of sale, then it did the same used car prep that it would do for a CPO, which is pretty extensive, compared to what most used car dealers do.

The CPO "warranty" runs for 3 years from the date of purchase, and can overlap (run concurrently) with a new car warranty if the vehicle is less than 4 years old. Thus, adding 3 years of Platinum coverage starting 3 months after the date of purchase gives you the same level of coverage as CPO, and for a slightly longer period of time.

I think you came out ahead, and I think this dealer acted admirably in correcting the mistake.

When people give the MPG, they should also give their average MPH over the period. People claiming that they get 22 mpg. some even as high as 27. Shoots i could get 27mpg if i drove 50MPH on the highway and 10-20mph in the city, with slow accelerations. Over the winter i avg 15.7MPG. I come out in the morning i start my truck (when i do use it on snow and rainy days) go back in the house to finish getting ready, then drive like a bat out of hell to work. hence the reason for my dismal gas mileage
