I have an 04' RX330/wNAV with 64,000 mile. My dealer in Bakersfield Ca qutoed a price of over $1400 for the 60000 miles sevice. They said it takes 8 hrs labor to perform. What does the forum think of the $1400, is that normal, excessive?? Any comments would be appreciated...
i just had mine done, and it cost $600 something, plus the rear brakes needed to be changed. I think you should try another dealer. They did call it a major service though, but i only paid that much.
I had some discounts though that my Service Rep placed on their automatically, something like 10% off
The 60000 mile servicing is the biggest servicing. It includes replacement of all fluids, a major tune up, transmission service, and more. I am sechedule to have it done on Jan 31 at which time the dealer will provide a loaner. After reading your responses on this forum I talked to a service rep. and they agreed to a $200 discount for a total of $1200. This is a step in the right direction but still seems high.... I'll post more next week after I get the service to let you know exactley what was included and how much I ended up paying... The dealer is Lexus Motor City Bakersfield, they said that it's hard to compare prices because they have a list of services that they perform that is more then what the 'book' requires. They said that each dealership can do more than what is called out by Lexus. That sounds a little weak to me... Anyhow thaks for helping me save $200...

I've posted this before... never, ever call a dealer and ask for the "x,000 mile service". It's true that they will upsell you, adding unnecessary tasks to increase the price and the profit. And that does make it impossible to compare two dealers' prices.
Always ask exactly what will be done, and don't be afraid to ask for a price on only those things you see in your maintenance guide book. (Have the book in front of you when you talk to them.)
There's a reason why Lexus service advisors have their own offices, like the car sales guys!
I agree with the idea that many service centers do extra work to jack the price up. For instance, took my car to the Acura dealer for its very first service. He wanted $300 to do a lot of odd ball things. I looked at him and said, do ONLY what is required by the warranty. He commented that "did I really want to mistreat my Acura that way?" I retorted that I felt that Acura knew better how to maintain the car that they designed than a service department. $40 later I had my car back.

What other extra things can they do? I had the transmission flush, changed all fluids, oil, whatever they call a tune up, inspect everything and a front brake job with my 60K service and it cost $900. What else can you do if nothing is broken? Timing belt and water pump change is too early at 60K so that is not needed. I also got an ES350 loaner as well.
