Default Question on the HID autoleveling

I got my RX350 on MAy06. At first i noticed that everytime when i turn on the headlights, i would see the light move around like they're doing adjustment or something. But now I don't see them moving when i turn on the headlights anymore. Anyone know is this normal? Are the headlight supposed to do the adjusting everytime I turn on the headlight? your answer is much appreciate.

They do go through an adjustment cycle when you turn on the headlights, and they steer through turns when exceeding 18 mph and stop when speed reaches 3 mph. There is a disable switch but if that is activated you would see an AFS OFF warning light on the dash. If they have failed, there should be a warning message. It's all explained in the manual.

My RX330 never adjust if I manually turn on the lights. It does it only when I start the car and the HL switch is set to "AUTO" when it's dark enough for it to turn on.

RX_brain--'May be the same on mine--never turned them on manually where I can observe it, but on Auto when starting the car in the garage, they always go through a cycle. Thanks for the info.

thank you all for the answers, i tried leave the HL to auto and turn on the car, but the HL still didn't go to the adjusting cycle. I remember my HL went through the cycle when I turned it on manually, but now the manual way wouldn't work either. If I reset the ECU would it fix the problem?

I've only noticed this adjustment happening when the lights are "on" (or "Auto" in a dark place, like a garage) when the car is first turned on. It's also more dramatic if the car is not on a level surface, like a driveway that slopes down toward the street.

Otherwise, I don't notice anything.

Since your RX is still under warranty, I'd say have the dealer check it out first. It's definitely not functioning properly.

IIRC, the lights should still swivel with the lights off; you just don't see it because you are in the car. Either your AFS is off or malfunctioning.
