I replaced mine with PIAA H-224 Xtreme White 921 bulbs. They match to HID pretty well, though not really sure if the are brighter (i.e. provide better rearward visibility).
Here's a pic:

Is this an outright replacement? Just pull and replace?

The PIAA extreme white bulbs are direct replacement.

I should try this. I will visit my Advance Auto store tonight. Who has the DIY for this? It will involve taking apart the rear hatch, right?

Anybody's taken pics on this DIY? If not, I will. I need to check my Manual.

If anyone has questions I do have pictures of the modification and the bulbs

Sorry, I did not take pictures of the procedure. But I believe if you search the lighting forum on replacing the license plate lights, there are instructions for accessing the bulbs located in the hatch. It does involve pulling the two panels off the inside. Just pull down on them (starting from one corner) and they will come out. It will sound like you are breaking something, but that's just the clips that secure the panels popping out. Once the panels are off, you'll see the wires going to the bulb housings (license plate, break lights, reverse lights, etc) The owner's manual actually has a pretty decent diagram that shows which bulb is the reverse light and how to remove it. When replacing the panels, you will need to make sure the clips are lined up with the holes or you may risk breaking or bending one of the clips. (putting the panels back was harder then removing). The entire process took no more than 5 minutes.

BTW, I just posted a bunch of pics in the lighting forum of other replacement lights I've done on my RX350 if you're interested (I went a little crazy with the light upgrades).

Here are the instructions, Caution: I did not try it, DIY at your own risk.

sorry to bring this old topic "alive" again.
i recently bought a new RX and having trouble seeing at night by using that backup camera
i got myself some PIAA also but they just not as bright as "Rinse Out's" are!!
for some reason i only see the bottom half of the backup light housing get reflection
the top half just don't get any lights reflect from the lower half
is there something wrong with mine or all of us are like that?
