Default Interior Size Big Enough for a Surfboard?

I am looking to buy a 2007 RX350 but was trying to figure out if it could hold a 8'6" surfboard inside the cabin. I was hoping that there might be some current owners out there who could offer some thoughts. Otherwise I need to haul the board down to the dealership. I have tried to use a tape measure to get a sense but it really is not the same thing. Thanks much.

Default I have my doubts

The car is not as long as it appears. The RX is 11 inches shorter than a Honda Accord, and only about 5 inches longer than my SC430.

Last week I bought an 8 foot length of 2x6, which is a pretty big length of board. I opened up the back door, folded down the right and center seat backs, and slid in the board. I had to position it between the front seats, and it came across the center console (I used a towel for protection) and the end came just up to the vicinity of the gear shift lever. The other end was pretty much just inside the rear door, allowing it to close.

Fitting a surfboard that's 6 inches longer and, I presume, much wider (a 2x6 is about 5.75" wide) inside the cabin might be a problem, but you should have no trouble strapping it to the roof rack, which is very solid.

If this is an important consideration for you, bring the board to the dealership. It will not be the strangest thing they have ever seen, and if you have to go with the roof rack, they will know the best methods of locking it to the rack.

Hang 10.

I have a 9'6" single fin, and it fits....barely.

Put it in nose first, fin down. Keep the back seats up, and slide it between the rear headrests on a slight angle from left rear to right front. It will use some of the dash for the nose of the board. A front passenger will be *** out, but they could sit in the right rear if need be.

Well, there you go.

I never thought of going over the seat backs, but not a lot of people here in Ohio cart surfboards around in their cars. This transportation method makes sense, as the dashboard is very deep (and the hood is very short -- part of the engine compartment is under there). I would try to use something to protect the top of the seats and the surface of the dash from damage or scratch marks, but that is easy enough to do.

Why is the roof rack not a good option?

Surf's up!
