Can you play DVD movies on the Navigation Screen if you do not have a RSES
Does anyone know if you can play DVD movies on a 2005 RX330 without having the rear DVD entertainment sytem? Is there anyway you can mod the DVD Navigation player unit? I know that you cannot even access the DVD player unit because it is hidden inside behind the front stereo unit. Any suggestions?

i have the RSES and it plays very nicely on the factory nav screen. looks just like the picture on the flipdown dvd screen. (it was designed that way)
there are some aftermarket solutions available to play on your nav screen. do a search on this forum and you should come up with one. vaistech used to have one, but i am not sure what happened to it http://vaistech.com/home.html

p.s. the nav unit is in the trunk, not behind the radio. that dvd nav player is only for the nav disc, i don't believe you can use it to play regular dvds or retrofit it to play on the nav screen.

the 330's don't come with that capability, so you can't just put a DVD in the CD changer.

i spoke to a rep at soundgate. They are working on the video module for the rx. The audio module works great from them (made by Vaistech). Vaistech does not have a video module now. As lexuslover was saying they used to, but there were some issues with it...so they stopped selling the AVIC and are trying to make a new one.

To play DVDs you would need to modify your setup on your car.
For the cost of an adaptor cable or unit. You could buy a Portable DVD player. Or better yet a WiFi iPad.
People spend 300 dollars just to hook up an iPod to their RX. And thats just audio.

Yeah, I was looking at the Vais group buy and was trying to decide if I should get the one that does video from the IPod too. If there was a way to get a DVD to play, I would buy the audio only Vais
Thanks for the info though

If you have the Mark Levinson upgraded system it has a cd/dvd changer. With a mod you can play dvd's like the pic below.
Picture quality is very good. Sound is awesome. Car is great.
