Oil Filter
The 90915-YZZD1 is a Lexus only number for the Denso filter. You can use a 90915-YZZD3 which is also known as a FO-11 which is a Denso filter for this engine that is same diameter but slightly longer giving more capacity. I get these from my Toyota dealer. Note, this applies to the 2004 RX-330 - can't vouch for any other year since I'm not sure if clearance is the same. If you want the Lexus filter, try ordering from www.irontoad.com and buy a few to make it worth the shipping. Also, as far as the oil plug gaskets. It is a coated metal gasket so I inspect it each time and change it every 4th oil change. Normally cost me about $0.75 each. Toyota dealers can order the D1 filter, but normally will not cut you the oil filter sale price since it is special order.

Lextranny - The Toyota dealer had 3 stacks of oil filters on the shelf - one stack each for 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, and 8 cylinder models. For the V6, They gave me the 90915-YZZD1. Although things are very confusing with different part numbers for the filters, it's really that simple - Toyota uses one filter size for each engine size.
Again, the part number changes based on country of manufacture. That number is made in Thailand; there were other numbers made in Japan, the U.S., and I believe Singapore. The price varies due to volume of production, shipping, etc., so the dealer will usually stock the cheapest one. Ask your dealer what they're putting on V6's, and it should be fine.
For what it's worth, 90915-YZZD1 is the number that Irontoad is quoting for all RX's; they want $4.42 plus shipping. The washer, 90430-12031, adds another $0.75.

Ok guys, I have not done an oil change on my car yet, whats the easiest way to go about doing this? I really havent even peeked up underneath the car yet. Does the plastic cover on the front bottom of the car have to come off? Do you get to the oil filter from the bottom or top?
Just gettting some quick info from the guys that have already done it? Yes I change the oil in all my cars---only this is the new one...04 330

Rxdriver,
Thanks....I'll try another Toyota dealership.
Booyah,
You read my mine!
I was going to post another thread on "How you go about changing the oil"? So anyone? I was thinking of taking the entire panel off at the bottom. But....looks like a lot of work....lots of screws to take off!! I hate to make a mess especially when taking the oil filter out, all the oil dripping down on the bottom plastic panel.

As TunedRX300 posted, the filter is the hardest part of the job.
I guess it's "six of one and half-a-dozen of the other" with regard to getting at the filter from the top or the bottom. If you go from the top, you can save time, but it takes a little practice to wiggle the filter wrench in there, loosen it up, get the wrench out, and then get the filter out without making a mess. There is very little room for your hand, tools, etc. from the top. If you go from the bottom, it's easier to do it without the mess, but taking all of the screws out of the cover is a drag. The first time I did it, I thought about putting back only half of the screws, but the plastic is a little too flimsy for that idea.
Make sure the engine has cooled off, especially if you're going to go at the filter from the top.

Most of those "screws" are actually just fasteners. Simply pry them off.
This website (not mine) has detailed instructions on how to change oil and filter. Either from top or bottom.

Are the washers really necessary? I don't use them, and I don't have any leaks.

Look at the risk of leaking oil.
Drips in the garage at minimum and low to no oil pressure at the other extreme leading to engine failure.

HarrierAWD,
Those instructions are for a RX300 not a RX330. Is it the same?? I noticed that the RX330 got more plastic panel on the bottom than the RX300.
Is the oil pan on the RX330 located on the passenger side bottom looking from the front of the car.??
Owner's manual doesn't mention a thing about it.........no pictures, etc....

Sorry, I thought RX330 would be similar to RX300.
The Lexus owner's manual isn't helpful for any DIY project. It doesn't even tell me how to change a light bulb. It's always "Take it to your Lexus dealer."

There's no third-party repair manual for the RX300 or Harrier. You'll have to buy the Lexus repair manual.
Haynes and Chilton don't say take it to dealer. They have disclaimer clause that say they are not responsible if they give wrong instruction and the owner screws up.
