Well after many months of being indecisive we have picked up a new RX330! We picked it up two days ago (before the rare snow here in Dallas). I was going to do the clear bra myself (I had put one on the Z), but I decided to go with a local place. The guy is here now in my garage doing the install. I'll let you know how it comes out.
Welcome to the love!!! The clear car bra is a hard film that is permenantly installed on the nose of the car. It is to help resist rock chips and the sort.
Congragulations on the new wheels The AWD will help not only on the uncommon snow days there in Dallas, but also on wet roads as well.
While a bra in front will help, the best way I have found to keep the front of a car looking nice is just to keep off of high-speed roads as much as possible....that way you won't be getting rocks tossed at you in the first place. And.....NEVER follow a dump truck closely, if at all possible. I realize, though, that some people don't have much choice.
Do you know the standard rules for a new-vehicle break-in? If not, PM me and I'll give them to you.
Thanks for the replies. I am VERY HAPPY with both the new ride and the clear bra install. If I stand a few feet away I can't even see it. If you get the angle right you can see where it ends, but most never notice it. Had a few people over last night and nobody noticed it until I pointed it out... It is on a silver vehicle which the installer said was one of the better colors to camouflage it.
I had Modern Armor do the install. Lots of good info on their site. Greg did a fantastic job! They have the RX on sale for December through a local sports car club. I paid $600 for the hood and grill surround (one single piece about two feet from top to bottom), a few triangles on the fenders, the fronts of the mirrors, and the bumper. I had them put headlight /fog light covers on too for an additional $75. Add in tax and there you go. BTW when I was talking with the installer he said most vehicles go for between 750-950, with some high end ones going for twice that with extra coverage. I think mine was a bargain! Money well spent if you ask me. A while back I had installed it with some help on a Z and let me tell you, I did do it pretty cheap but it was waaaay tedious and killed a whole day. It came out alright, the the RX looks better somehow.
Hmmm, try not to do any high speed driving and you can avoid paint chips. I couldn't even leave my development if that was the case, and forget taking it to work and the like. Traffic moves pretty fast around here, and I am a racer at heart.
I have never seen the clear bra, what is the advantage of it?
Advantage of clear bras are to keep from the paint chip/pitting accumulate over time on the front fascia. The 04 RX330 we have has a full custom cut clear bra job done w/Venture Tape. The whole front end of the RX is covered i.e. front bumper, front hood/grille surround, mirrors, including the headlight/foglight protection kits. Ours was done just a few days after we picked it up from the dealership through www.aeroshield.com. All thi was done under $500 here in SoCal. In other markets it will be expensive. Venture Tape is far superior than the 3M films that are known to yellow and have an orange peel appearance.
I will try to take some pics of it today. I'm currently in NorCal so i'll be busy going in and out.

Both cars are done with 3M. Venture, Avery, etc are non-clear coated. All the non-coated ones require frequent waxing/cleaning or they absorb road oils and such - turning an uncleanable dull gray. I have seen it with my own eyes - lived in the rockies for years. If you live somewhere with weather, stick with 3M. Just my .02
Having seen the Venture turn gray within 6 months in Colorado I would beg to differ. The lifetime warranty is worthless if you have to re-do it all the time if you live where you have a real winter... Labor is never warrented, that is th expensive part.. Anyway, if you live in socal it doesn't really matter, just keep it waxed and you should be fine.
