msilverIS is making a joke because many of us have been getting nothing but rental Camry's as loaners. Anyway, my wife and I both work about a 5 minute walk from the Lexus dealer so I don't think we will need a loaner this time.

I've gotten RX300's (before the RX330 was out), IS300's, ES300's and RX330's. I think my dealer tries to give you the same car that you have as a loaner if at all possible.

I had the brake light switch recall done last weekend. They gave me an ES330 for a loaner. No free tank of gas, in fact, the loaner car had a notice sticker stating that the loaner is a courtesy car and the gas should be replaced before returning! This is a new sticker. I never saw it before in any of the loaners they provided me. They posted it right by the gear shifter and ashtray so that you never miss reading it.

Anyway, they also replaced the rear wiper assembly and did a 4 wheel alignment all under warranty! I just love Lexus Service! They're so much better than the treatment I get for my Mercedes Benz whenever I go there for a recall or servicing. In fact, the Benz dealership got me so irked yesterday because they said they would only do recall work on weekdays! C'mon, they are already inconveniencing me because of the recall and they can't even accommodate me on a weekend coz they don't do that type of work on weekends? It is really bad service from my perspective.

This is the first time I've ventured outside of Lexus in 10 years. My Benz is wonderful but the service really sucks. Nothing beats Lexus!

My dealership charges me up front $5 for a full tank of gas for the loaner car. When I return it ...I don't need to fill it up.

Whoa. This original post was so long ago, I even forgot I replied to it. I just got my notice today, 3/18/05!?! The canoe paddler who brought the mail from Cali must've made a wrong turn!?!

Seriously though, about the USPS, I went to our post office box today, and received a parcel postmarked 12/15/04, and I got it today... On the outside it reads "Merry Christmas" from the sender...

Well, I never received my actual notice in the mail yet. However, just last week Lexus finially did call us to let us know about the recall and to schedule an appointment. Either way I guess it will get done finially. I have to remember to tell my wife to let them know about the rear windshield wiper arm as well.

Default FREE GAS & WIPER BLADES

Took it in for the recall and got free wash job, gas, & wiper blades, then drove 1400 miles to Florida.
Back from Florida today & really needs another free wash job.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but for the last couple of nights my rear brake lights lit up by themself. I have to depress the brake to turn the brake lights off. It sounds like what Rxdriver was describing below. How can I check to see if my RX is part of the recall and if the recall has been performed on my RX. I have gotten a recall letter for the floor mats but never gotten any recall letter about a brake switch. My 2004 RX330 was Made In Japan. I bought is used 3 years ago.

It's a small switch that detects if you're pressing the brake pedal. I believe it's mounted in such a way that the if you are not pressing the pedal, the switch is actually pushed in. When you press the pedal, the switch is able to spring out. This switch operates the brake lights, and it also tells the computer that it's OK to let you shift out of park.
The switch is being recalled because in Japan they're finding that the switch is corroding on the inside, and it could stop working. There have been no reports of accidents in the U.S. as a result of this potential problem.
The recall affects the RX330 and the Prius.

About service at a Toyota dealer...
Sorry to hear about your experience, rhody401. Car dealers are still car dealers, no matter which brand they sell.
A Toyota dealer is perfectly capable of performing maintenance work on a Lexus. They can order any parts they need without any problem. Obviously, they don't stock anything that's specific to Lexus, so it's best to plan ahead if you would like them to do any work that's more involved than fluid changes. The V6 Highlander and Sienna have the same powertrain, so they know what they're doing with preventive maintenance.
However, a Toyota dealer can't perform any warranty work if you live within a certain distance of a Lexus dealer unless it's an emergency and Toyota is closest. (I forget the distance... 100 or 150 miles, I think.) That means they can't do TSIB's, fix rattles, etc., for free under warranty. They might not touch such an issue at all, or else they may have to charge for their time - you'll have to ask the dealer.

go online to the lexus.ca or lexus.com and sign up.

or

call your dealer with the VIN, they wil run it and tell you if there is anything outstanding. if you have your vehicle serviced by the dealer, it is there policy to run the vehicle for recalls at every visit.

Easiest way would be to contact the dealer and ask to see if they would check to see if the repair was done. Sounds like the problem. The recall was early in the game so it probably went to the original owner.

Thanks all for the info. I'll call the dealer. Is the recall valid even thou I am out of warranty?

If the recall was never performed and was needed for your vehicle they should do it regardless. However, if the vehicle had the work performed previous or your car was not part of the recall then you would be on the hook to pay for the repair, IMHO.
