Do you mind telling us what the invoice is ? I personally am very suspicious of any dealer that says they will sell for invoice cost. There are just way too many people getting their vehicles for "invoice" in comparison to the amount of money that dealerships are making these days. To me, invoice means what the dealer paid for the vehicle. What incentive do dealerships have to sell for this price, especially for the salesman who has to put food on his plate ?

Invoice is 35,800 about. I just had a friend buy from the same dealership with the same person so I'm very confident in the deal and the numbers work out.

My feeling is that the dealer's definition of the term "invoice" has changed. It just does not make economic sense for the dealer to sell something for what they paid for it. Also, the fact that your friend paid a similar price for something does not lend support to idea that you are in fact paying "invoice". All it means is that you both got the same deal from the same dealership ( this is not unusual). The auto-sales industry is very crafty at stirring up numbers for their benefit. When you signed the lease agreement, did you actually see the total purchase price of the vehicle ?

5 or 10 yrs ago if you walked into a dealership and asked for a vehicle at invoice cost they would have laughed at you, even at the GM dealership. Now everybody walks around with their feathers up in pride saying they paid "invoice"........how is this possible ? Creative accounting and skewing of the definition of the term "invoice" that is. Salesman have once again found a sneaky way to make buying a new vehicle more attractive............." I can get you this car at invoice cost !!!!"

Note that "the invoice price" is not necessarily the dealer's bottom line. Lexus usually runs a 2% "dealer kickback" which helps finance dealer's inventory. (Remember, the dealers have to buy these cars first. Otherwise they'd be "brokers.")

Also, the dealer can make good money from leasing and financing. When they know a buyer will lease or finance, they'll give the buyer a good price up front to reel in the business, then slaughter the buyer at the finance manager's desk.

And consider year-end close outs are less attractive. Since the car will be one-year-old as soon as it leaves the showroom, it will worth far less than its invoice price. First year depreciation is the steepest. Not sure if Mr. Desirusso got a 2004 though.
