Default New 04 Update for the NAVI

I was toying around with the 05 Nav yesterday and I like the what they did to the colors and pictures on the screen---Looks a little better to me than 04!

I wish someone would buy the updated Nav disc and see if it changes our 04 display to look like the 05's---ANY TAKERS? You notice it says the database wil be Vers-1 (Not 3.2 or something)

I tried the voice rec and it seemed like a pain in the butt--didnt fully reconize everything I was saying---but Im sure you have to give it specific commands for it to understand. Didnt have the owners manual to look at.

I would buy the update just to get the new colors and graphics the 05's have......I know we cant get the voice part

Default 2005 upgrade DVD for 2004 RX330

I asked earlier in the week and got a response from Lexus:

Thank you for contacting Lexus Customer Satisfaction regarding your 2004 RX 330. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your thoughts.

Lexus releases yearly navigation DVD updates every Fall. It usually will include updated roads, etc. More information will become available near the release date. It will update the existing software but will not change other features of the system like the system in the 2005 model. The update is not covered by the Lexus warranty and costs around $250.00 MSRP. It can only be ordered from an authorized Lexus dealer. We are sorry for any inconvenience this situation may cause you.

If you would like to discuss your concerns further, you can also reach the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department at 1-800-255-3987, Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Pacific Time.
I wonder if this is a DVD-R or pressed?

It's a dual-layer DVD.
The burners are out, but I have yet to actually see blank DL media in the local stores...

The other issue is that the heat might be a long term problem for the media. Count me as curious too

I had planned to get it this week.

What colors are you talking about?

You can already change the colors that you have!! Its somewhere in the setup...it gives you four choices for day and four for night.

From another forum: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...howtopic=14554

Looks like Gen 3 NAV(04 model year) will not look like Gen 4(05 model year) using the latest DVD NAV updated.

Smile One new feature after update to 04 version

Updated from 2.1 to 4.1 DVD nav on my 04 RX330. The screens are pretty much unchanged, but I did find a new screen under the screen adjustment window. Option for single or dual mode. Similar to my wifes ES330 nav 05. If you select dual mode, the right side of the window now can show either a zoomed in map or a turn by turn list. I don't recall this feature on the 2.1 version.

Do you have the following options:

1. Maximum zoom gives building silhouette views.
2. Able to enter destination by phone number.
3. GPS coordinate information.

Thanks,
JL

The only way to update actual menu screens on the Gen4 nav would be to have a firmware upgrade from Denso. The map upgrade is just that. It only updates the maps. I've looked at the 05 RX's Nav screen and wished I had waited a few more months to purchase but hey thats life. I always feel better when my neighbor complains about how poor his VW Touaregs navigation system is. It doesn't even show street names! The refresh times are awful.

So be happy that we at least have a good system. Who knows, maybee someone will rip the firmware out the GEN4 and upload to a GEN3.
