04 Rx330 Brakes
My Rx330 went in for it's 20K service yesterday. Aside from the usual oil change, tire rotation etc. I mentioned that I was experiencing a slight steering wheel shake when braking from @ 70MPH. The dealer resurfaced the rotors and told me that Lexus has upgraded the Pads, Rotors and other various brake components. Anyone who mentions they have a brake issue should get the upgrade at no cost. My parts have been ordered. FYI.
I took my '04 RX330 in for normal service at the dealer at around 20000 miles (normal service, oil change rotate tires, etc.). After the service, I had a fairly severe front-end vibration when I braked. It got worse as the brakes were applied at increased speed. The steering wheel would shake so bad I was concerned about losing control of the vehicle. I called the dealer service department and they told me about a brake service bulletin concerning the front rotors and brakes. The service manager had to order the parts and a week later I took my car in for repair. This fixed the problem and the brakes seem to work great with no more front end shimmy.
Has anyone done this upgrade yet? I am bringing mine in tomorrow. Took a look at my friends receipt and it appears that they have upgraded the front rotors (seem larger than the old ones), upgraded front pads and also upgraded rear pads. Can anyone confirm on the upgrade of the rear pads? Thanks.
TSIB BR004-04 instructs the dealer to replace the front rotors, inspect and replace the front brake pads if needed, and inspect and replace the shims on the front brake pads if needed.
It's logical that they replace the front pads period, because they were part of the situation that warped the rotor. Just to set expectations, though, it does say "if needed" on the pads.
It doesn't mention the rear brakes at all, so if they're changing those too for free, your dealer is being nice by trying to make sure you don't have a problem.
