Default air conditioner screams

2006 RX 400. Shortly after starting down the road, horrible screaming/roaring sound and major vibration over glove box. I turned off the air conditioner and sound went away. Car runs fine otherwise. Compressor? Belt? I have no intention of working on it myself, but would love to have some idea of the problem before I take it to the shop. Thanks, Ruth

I can't remember for sure but doesn't the RX400h have a battery driven AC comprrssor?

I know the non-hybrid versions all use a belt driven compressor.

if the sound is insid the cabin it is highly likely to be your fan, Try this -
. When I bought my car it didn't have any filter and there was leaves touching the fan making lots of noise. If the issue is in your engine compartment then it is likely the compressor but possibly if you're lucky could be a loose belt

My neighbor came over, took a look, and showed me where the belt/belts were missing. Now, who can recommend a Lexus mechanic in the Denver area?

That's a start.
I don't know anyone in your area but please make sure whoever you hire- they have good ratings and know how to work on a Lexus Hybrid or you will get soaked.

Last thing you need is for someone learning at your expense. You need someone who KNOWS these cars. Lol 😃
