If you're like me, you dislike stream-style washer nozzles. They waste fluid, don't cover a wide area and don't work as well at higher speeds. The 3rd gen RX has a mist-style one in the rear and I wanted the same for my 2nd gen. There are two part numbers listed: 85391-48020 for the stock stream nozzle, and 85391-48021 for the mist nozzle. The second part number is shared with the 10-15 Toyota Prius, so I figured I'd get one of those to try. After taking everything apart, I found it wouldn't even come close to fitting. I don't know if any of these cars come with stream nozzles in the back, but if your car didn't, here's an alternative that works perfectly:
The nozzle we're going with is part number: 76850-SXS-A02 - which is installed in the rear of an 07-11 Honda CR-V.
I first noticed this on a CR-V at the junkyard and immediately had the idea to fit it to my car. I was originally going to use the junkyard one, but after fiddling with it, it crumbled away due to old age. It uses a 10mm threaded body and is secured using a 14mm nut and rubber seal. It's fully-adjustable up & down too, but I found the factory setting was perfect already.
After taking the spoiler off, there is a tab facing the right/passenger side that you need to press on to release the nozzle
This is the most annoying part
You're going to have to push the hose back into the trunk area, slip the nut over and tape it to the hose so it doesn't fall down into the abyss. Then, feed the hose back out of the hole were the stock nozzle went, doing this alone SUCKS!!! I had to get someone to help me with a pair of pliers to grab the hose. After that, just pop the new nozzle in where you will see it'll fit perfectly
Using some more tape, tape the nozzle to the body so it stays still so you can thread the nut onto the washer nozzle body from behind
After you get the nut threaded on all the way, take the most compact 14mm open end wrench you can and have someone hold it in the center while you tighten it. This is the 2nd worst part as clearance is abysmal in there!
Test it out! You'll notice a much better spray, and you can adjust it if you'd like! I left mine alone as it shot in almost the exact same position as factory
Perfect clearance with the spoiler back on! No trimming or anything required!
I use a longer 16" rear wiper on the back from a 3rd gen RX vs. the standard 14" (Now I can share wiper inserts between my two RXs). For the front I just use the standard 26" 22" combo as it's very easy to find replacements for the rubber inserts. I think someone was able to use 28 and 24 though up front
