Exclamation P2714 Tranmission Sensor/Solenoid issues

Hey yall,

I just tried to post this and it didnt work. So I am going to be slightly less detailed here. Basically I ended up grounding out my amplifier power wire while it was connected to the battery. And instead of popping the fuse, it just melted the wire. Instantly after this my CEL and VSC lights came on. Initially I was throwing code P0791 Intermediate shaft speed sensor A no circuit.

I was skeptical because of what happened so I ordered a cheap replacement off of amazon. Installed the sensor and instantly I was getting the same code with the same symptoms. At this point I checked my wiring and determined the wiring, which is directly to the ECM (no fuse) was good. So I concluded that I fried a circuit inside the ECM and ordered a replacement.

I plugged in the new ecm, initialized it to my car and started it up. Instantly I threw the same code. So I went to Oreilly and bought a sensor there. This seemed to do the trick. For the first 50 miles I didnt have any CEL but the trans was not behaving correctly. So after driving 30/40 miles I got a P2714 Pressure control solenoid D performance or stuck off.

So I am going to get into the trans valve body and see what I can figure out. My question is in regards to the part and part number. Lexus is calling for 35290-33020. For whatever reason that specific solenoid is hard to find and more expensive than the other options that rock auto and other sites is telling me will work. These look like 35290-44010 or 35290-34010. Does anybody know if I have to use the exact part number replacement? I know there are some of these that are for different transmissions. But as long as it is calling for the U151 I would imagine that the part will work even if it is a variant of that part number. Any insight would be great!

Look forward to getting this resolved so I can have my baby back!!!! 200k and runs perfect. Hoping we can get another 200 out of it!

I hoping for your success.
If you figure it out, please post your fix for us

Eowyn its an 08 rx350 AWD. The car just turned over 200k. Runs like its new motor wise. And I have found if I manage the 2-3 shift manually, or I make sure the shift isnt triggered until after 3500 rpm. It shifts fine, no slippage or delay. But if I am driving through a neighborhood, it feels like one part of the shift is happening, but the second part is delayed. As I understand that shift is controlled by energizing the SR solenoid and De-Energizing the SL2? But the DSL/TCC solenoid also engages starting in 3rd. Additionally if I attempt a downshift from 3-2 without putting the pedal to the floor I feel the same delay. The rpms will not move until whatever needs to happen happens. So I feel that it is a pressure issue. Not positive if its the solenoid or if its loosing pressure somewhere in the valve body.

I did do a full drain and fill 9.5 quarts. It helped somewhat. But not enough to drive normally by any means. My next thought/steps are to do a full adaptive memory reset on the TCM which I havent been able to do yet. And I plan to replace the valve body. If anybody has had good luck with a rerfurb valve body and can point me in the right direction for a supplier. I cant spring for a toyota valve body. It could just be the SLT solenoid. It might be time to spring for a diagnosis but I already know what any shop or dealership is going to tell me.

Does it feel like there's a four to five seconds pause before the shift takes place? Mine is still doing that after a full trans service, solenoid check, new clock spring, new turbine sensor. Solenoid checked out fine, had perfect resistance. It got better as I test drove it- shifted less hard into second, but still took far too long into third. My guy is going to put the old turbine sensor back on and see if that clears the P2714 code (new one- the codes prior were for the clock spring and the turbine.) Don't have them off the top of my head, but they're gone now. It's never been a mechanical problem- only a shift timing one on mine (09 AWD). I'm convinced once we find it it'll be one of those "duh, dummy" things, but we're shooting in the dark. ClubLexus has zero help so far and Toyota Nation is just as empty.

I saw a video on YouTube a while back done by a master Toyota transmission rebuilder and he always replaces all the solenoids with new.

Most shops only spray the old solenoids with brake cleaner and stick them back in instead of replacing them. Gimme $3,000 please for nothing. Lol

Supposedly they always fail again in a few months.
Not good news for anyone hiring someone to do a rebuild.

If my transmission ever kicks the bucket I'll just get a new car or have a good donor transmission dropped in, I'm not messing around with "rebuilt" transmissions. Lol

Definitely wasn't the case here- this is the first time the trans solenoid has been checked- its the first time it's had any hiccups trans wise. I bought it one owner, full records. According to those, just pure maintenance. Never wrecked, never abused- it was a west coast only car- one of the reasons I bought it. Grew up south of the rust belt and no thanks to that nightmare lol.
I have a local transmission guy that <if> mine goes out on, I'll have him rebuild- he exclusively does trans rebuilds and replacements.
