Paint quality on RX330
I have a Bamboo pearl RX and just recently found this board. After 15k I have 8 rock chips on the hood, front fenders, bumper cover, and roof, 6 windshield chips. The touch-up paint is watery. It takes numerous coats to fill these chips in. This is unacceptable in a 50k automobile.
I also have a 2002 Mazda Tribute with 50k on the clock and maybe 2 rock chips, it has been driven on all types of terrain while the RX has only been driven on the highway.
Is this going to be charged as excessive wear when I turn it in and go for a Cayenne??
TIA

I have 4 paint chips after 4000 miles on a RX330 - which hardly is driven on the freeway. Many more chips than my other car which is always driven on the freeway. My brother-in-law also has an RX330 with paint chips and rust spots located under the front grill area. I have not been happy with the quality of these vehicles !
I also notice that my RX300's paint is weaker than my old cars'. I have had several paint chips where the paint simply came off. My old cars just have small dents on the paint surface.
My white Lexus touch-up paint also looked like watered-down milk. So I use Toyota superwhite paint, then apply the Lexus paint on top of it.
I didn't buy the $250 clear bra because it can turn yellow. I saw it turned slightly yellow on a white CPO 2000 RX300 on the dealer lot.

Just returned from a 1,000 mile trip on I-75 and found about 3-4 new stone chips on the top of the hood, front of the hood, and bumper of my 2.5 month old RX330 with 3,000 miles. I don't follow closely to trucks or anything else that might kick up stones yet this is a mess. I agree that the paint quality seems poor. My older cars have far more miles and fewer chips.
Has anyone else noticed that when you get a stone chip it takes out a huge amount of paint...both in surface area and depth? It doesn't seem right. What can we do? Any suggestions? At this rate I'll have no paint left on the hood in about 3 years.
