Default replacing factory Nav with Android Auto

Quick Question, 2005 RX330, has factory Nav, would like to replace it with maybe a Sony or other newer head with Android Auto. Working with Crutchfield, they have interface cables but I need to replace the existing radio/cassette/cd player but say the unit will not work in the Nav location. If I remove the existing Nav system what functions will I lose and what are the recommended options to get a current Nav system in the car.

You can keep the nav in place and opt for a double din, of your choice, to fill the area the stereo takes up below. There are many threads about this including some from me. What do you lose? Possibly the navigation from the nav unit but this is replaced by the new head unit. Interface cables are readily available via Amazon, eBay or other sources as well. It is not a hard job to repalce with a new double din unit.

Navigation, bluetooth (hands-free phone calls/calling/call receiving, texts, voice commands), all app functionality, rear view camera, YouTube, XM/Sirius radio, weather, etc are all handled by the new head unit in fact any app you see on your phone will appear on most the new units screen as they pair to your phone. Use "Search" you'll see a wealth of info on this. I use Android Auto on my '04 RX330 and love

That is with nav unit. Mine did not have factory nav but search under my postings you'll see how mine looks in a couple threads regarding stereos

Crutchfield is great to work with -- when I integrated a Kenwood Excelon double-din into the lower section with the CD player, I wanted to keep the HVAC and other functions in the top OEM screen. Also wanted to keep the steering wheel volume and forward/back controls. Even though I am familiar with car stereo installs, Crutchfield support was a necessary resource to understand all the parts necessary for a proper install. May be a bit more expensive than directly buying from other vendors, but I found their support worth it -- certainly with the RX330 conversion (I do have ML).

This 7 inch model: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DMX...n-DMX809S.html

Works fine, though the wireless AA automatic loading can be a pain (slows everything at startup). SQ is excellent.

I could not use the Lexus built in reverse cam (quality is poor anyway), so I purchased one from Ebay that fits in the rear reverse light slot. Has to leverage Crutchfield's tech support who identified which reverse signal wire in the driver side fuse block to tap into -- that help was gold!
