Default if its not one thing its another!

This is just peachy!!! i was on my way home yesterday from making a 220 mile road trip and all the sudden the ac stops working properly; I start getting really warm; i was like wth! so i go to my servicing dealer on the way home; they took about an hour and a Half or so and found that i have a leaking evap core and expansion valve. I was thinking just great!!! what next!!! the dealer wants 2,187 to replace it and the expansion valve. then i was like i told my service advisor i cant afford that! so what am i to do from here? we are still gonna have warm weather until the end of october knowing its arizona and i dont want to drive a sweat box. ughhh!!!! what next? water pump? t stat? while most part on this one that havent been replaced on this rx are original; it keeps coming back to bite me in the butt so to speak!!! Is it too early for a strong drink?

Wow.......I'd for sure stay out of dealers, I'd use a indy shop. If you were up here, I'd tell you to go see the shop down the street from where I work at 5 corners as thats all he does is a/c, cooling system work....I use Greg's Japanese auto, which got bought out by Sun Auto who also bought a lot of other shops.......Matt are you thinking/wanting/ or need to get another vehicle?

no cant afford car payments atm; i have checked with a bunch of indy shops and the lowest ive found is 1600ish. i am not selling or trading this one its just that it seems like all the original parts are all the sudden biting the dust all at one time.

Hi Matts,

What troubles me about the diagnosis is it's not clear whether they are saying the expansion valve is leaking or the evaporator core is leaking.

The expansion valve attaches to the evaporator core and at this junction it can leak.

However, throw away the repair manual cuz the expansion valve can be replaced by dropping the fan assemble and there is plenty of room without pulling the dash.

If the evaporator core is really leaking I'd want to see proof.

Basically what I am saying is I don't believe their diagnosis only because it looks like they are implying there are two leaks- evap core AND expansion valve and I don't like that.
