Which transmission do I have?
U151E: 2004-2009 FWD
U151F: 2004-2009 AWD
E-CVT: 2006-2008 400h

Filters:
  • 4-speed filters from 1st gen RX300 are NOT compatible with the 5-speed used on 2nd gen RX
  • Toyota does NOT sell a screen for the 5-speed, only a media

Media (5-speed): 35330-08010
Filter o-ring (5-speed): 90301-32012
Aftermarket media (5-speed): WIX 58010 (Comes with filter o-ring & trans pan gasket. Correct filter for 5-speed A/T)
Wrong aftermarket media (4-speed): WIX 58618 (Comes with filter o-ring & trans pan gasket. Wrongly listed for models with 5-speed, but filter is actually for 4-speeds)

Pans:

- The pan is different and not compatible between the 4-speeds & 5-speeds, the pan gasket, drain plug & plug gasket is shared. The 4-speed pan is a little deeper which allows for about extra 0.5 L of oil (4L 4-speed vs 3.5L for 5-speed)

Pan (5-speed): 35106-08010
Pan gasket: 35168-21011 (Material: Cork-rubber)
Pan magnet: 35394-08010 x2
Pan bolt: 90080-11496 x18 (M6x1.0 bolt)
Transmission breather: 90930-03157
Pan drain plug gasket: 90430-18008 (Aluminum flat crush washer for M18x1.5 plug)
Pan drain plug: 90341-18016 (M18x1.5 10mm allen plug, can be swapped for transfer case drain plug or others)

Torque specs:
Drain plug: 36 ft-lbs
Pan bolt: 67 in-lbs
Filter bolt: 8 ft-lbs / 96 in-lbs

Magnetic plugs:
Cummins 3924147 (17mm head, Running it on my Highlander & 08 RX350)
Honda 90081-PX4-003 (3/8" ratchet head no socket required)
Toyota 90341-18040 (24mm hex plug with large magnet)
Toyota 90431-18057 (24mm hex plug with small magnet)
Hyundai / Kia 0K95B-27121 (Same as Toyota hex plug with small magnet)
Aftermarket: PSR0401-1 (19mm head)

Pan plugs thread: Swap to 24mm Hex Plugs Rear Differential + Transmission

CV axle oil seals:

Rear CV
Side seal: 90311-35032
Pinion seal: 90311-38068

Mounts:

- The FWD & AWD hydraulic mount is shared between the 4-speed and 5-speed for our application (K-platform). However, the I4 and V6 models have different part numbers specified to them probably due to the torque difference between the engines. I have confirmed newer 6-speed and 8-speed mounts are an almost exact fit, except they require you to trim the upper locating pin near the top threads (Do at your own risk). Other than this, fitment & operation are perfect. If you are okay with this, then I would say definitely seek out a used 6-speed U660 or 8-speed U880 transmission mount to replace a blown out original. This should keep your Highlander's trans happy and smooth.

Top nut: 90080-17208 (M14x1.5)
Bottom nut: 90080-17207 (M12x1.25)

Torque specs:
Top nut 19mm: 64 ft-lbs
Bottom nut 17mm: 64 ft-lbs

Default rx 350 AWD 2008 torque specs for struts and sway bar link and

Hi, Matt!
I need to reinstall 4 Gabriel struts , and 2 front sway bar. (I think any struts will beat my old struts )
Could you help me with torque spes for those job?

Also I find out there are 2 different size of lug nuts (21,22mm) in my wheel, I think this is one of the reason my car went bad. So I am planning on change all 20 stubs and nuts. Do you have any suggesion , also including torque spes?
( The other reson are tire pressure and power steering fluid too low)

Lug nuts:
Torque - 76 ft lbs (I go to 90 on my cars)

I would definitely go for the Japan-spec lug nuts these are 1-piece and are superior and stronger than the Canadian/US ones that come on most other Lexus/Toyota cars. I did this upgrade on my 2014 RX and it was noticeable how much easier it was to take them off. The NA lug nuts with their 2-piece design like to swell in rusty environments. If the lugs are aftermarket, there's a chance they may not have the right seat depending on what the previous person ordered.

Lugs 90942-01033

Front struts:
Knuckle-to-strut (22mm) - 180 ft lbs
Front end link (17mm) - 55 ft lbs
Piston nut (19mm) - 36 ft lbs
Brake line (12mm): 14 ft lbs
Strut mount nut (14mm) - 59 ft lbs - BE CAREFUL! Aftermarket mounts may have a lower torque spec, check with MFR. OEM mounts can be torqued to 59 ft lbs

Rear struts:
Knuckle-to-strut (19mm or 22mm) - 159 ft lbs / 180 ft lbs for 22mm. 22mm may only be on 08-09 Canadian RX, not sure as I never saw it though but it is in the manual
Rear end link (14mm) - 29 ft lbs (I went to 35 ft lbs)
Piston nut (19mm) - 36 ft lbs
Brake line (12mm): 14 ft lbs
Strut mount nut (14mm) - 59 ft lbs - BE CAREFUL! Aftermarket mounts may have a lower torque spec, check with MFR. OEM mounts can be torqued to 59 ft lbs

Steering fluid:
About 900ml of Dexron III but I have been using Dex VI in my Highlander and 08 RX for years with no issue. It's synthetic and runs better in the cold, comes out real clean too. No leaks at all and steering is buttery smooth. I jacked the car up and disconnect the PS line down by the subframe and had my brother turn the wheel (with car off) to pump out all the old fluid. Worked really well and that's the best way to flush it. To refill, repeat process and turn the wheel to get the new fluid through the lines and rack, pump, etc. By the time the car starts after that, there should be no air and you should hardly have to add any more fluid.

I called Gabriel , someone gave me an update:
for all front and rear struts:

Strut mount nut - 43 ft lbs

Lower ball mount to steering knucKle ( I guess this should be the same as " Knuckle-to-strut")
I called twice , first he told me 133 ft lbs. and then I called to ask him what size is it, he said 17mm. needs 217 FT LBS.

An update for the job .
A galage merchanic changed the 4 struts and 4 sway bar links,. ( I tried , but I can removed the most difficult nut)
The result is : it reach to 60% of lexus's handling. This is what the 30 years' merchanic told me.
Than I driven the same car to NJ, changed 2 front tires in walmart $ 333 in total.

Goodyear Reliant All-Season 235/55R18 100V All-Season Tire

And when I went back to NY, My daughters and I were so amazed with our car, so smooth.
I would like to give 80% to my car and 98% to NJ roads.

Aslo after I changed the power steering fluid, I love driving my car. + 8%
I am learning to do a transmission fluid flushing and differential oil changing. Because shift is hard from day 1 when I have the car.
But could someone tell me front ,middle , rear, which differential oil shall I change? Just for maintainent.

Something funny is when a shop doing the car expection, they told me $680 to change the power steering pump. Because it is leaking. I know m car never have this problem, it could be too much power steering fluid I pour in it.
So I just bought "lucas" pour into it, and the leaking or something stopped.

Great update. I used 75W90 synthetic GL-5 gear oil (Redline) for the front transfer case and rear differential. Front differential is in the transaxle so it shares the tranny fluid, and our cars don't have a real center differential so we don't have to worry about filling that either. You need 1 L (bottle) for the t-case and rear diff. My PS pump had a super tiny slow leak, I just re-sealed it with a 15 dollar seal kit and it's as dry as a bone now.

I wouldn't flush an old transmission, but it may be worth it to change the transmission fluid a few times then the filter. I used OEM Toyota WS transmission fluid and a Wix filter and now the transmission shifts like butter.
