JRB had special ordered an RX330 with heated seats. Unfortunately, came in without. Dealer had to convert the seats for him and install wiring and switch. According to JRB, they work fine.

eyebike has a very good memory - nothing to add to what I've previously posted about this, other than to say that it was a custom shop that did the install. I have no idea how involved this is, but we were very happy with the result. If you decide to pursue this yourself, you might want to ask your dealer who they use for something like this, and then go over there and ask someone who's actually done one of these before.

When they are installed by an aftermarket shop, the tech removes the seat cover, installs a heating element pad on the bare seat foam, and then runs wires to a switch and splices in to the factory wiring. The differences are as follows: you will most likely get an on/off switch with two or three heating position (hi/lo or hi/med/low), the switch itself will be different than the multi-adjustable lexus flush-mounted retractable control, and it may be mounted in a location different than that from the factory. Also, you may only get heat on the seat bottom instead of the bottom and seat back (be sure to ask).

Factory installed is always the best option in my opinion. It's like the moonroof installs - many people say they're fine but I really wouldn't want someone I didn't know pulling my brand new car apart and fooling with it. Granted, heated seats are less obtrusive than a moonroof install - they may do it correctly but they could cause other problems that show up now or down the line - like rattles, ill fitting seat covers, failures when out of warranty etc.

JRB, glad it worked for you, did you get switches in the design slots on the dash or on the seat bases?

Curious cause I almost ordered a car without heaters and the dealer was going to aftermarket the heater switches on the seat base - no way for me.

They put the switches right where they would be if they were stock, and they also matched them up perfectly so you would never know it was dealer-installed (actually specialty-shop installed). Very happy with the result. The other benefit is that they heat up faster than the stock heaters, according to the dealer anyway - hard to say as we don't have the stock heaters but they do heat up fast.

guugoo, I would have done it for that price - IF they put in the original hi/low switch in the console - hope you got those.

Hello All, here is a diagram of the heated seats if this will help. also, i dont have heated seats but i have a factory switch for i believe the drivers side in my dash board by the shifter. and i am missing the other side so there is just a hole. if anyone needs a switch, ill trade them for just 2 factory blanks to cover the slot. thanks!
