clunking from brakes?....
recently had 2002 RX 300 serviced - now notice a thumping/clunking sound when driving. Seems to be coming from left rear wheel area - disappears when brakes are engaged, but when let foot off brake the thumping sound returns. Seems to be brake related - is the caliper or brake pad not disengaging from the rotor properly? Obviously I will contact dealer and get them to check it but thought I would check with the forum to see what everybody thought. Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice!
got the RX 300 back into the shop for the clunking sound. Before we could get it to the shop though, the left rear wheel fell off(rim and tire)! This happened at highway speed. I guess we now know what the sound was - lucky nobody was killed, either in our vehicle or when the tire/rim went across the highway into oncoming traffic. The car had been routinely serviced ~ 1 week before and as part of the servicing they did a tire rotation. Apparently torquing the lug nuts was optional. In any event, the damage is being taken care of by the dealership - hopefully there will be no long term adverse problems from this little mishap. Just thought I would post follow up on the problem I was having - so often complaints are raised but nobody posts follow up reports. Hope nobody else has this happen to them!
Yikes!!
That could have been a WHOLE LOT worse. Hope you and family are all OK. Glad to see the dealer is taking responsibility here.
