I ordered the "el-cheapo" rear hatch struts from EBAY the other day. I figured they would just pop in like the old ones. Not so fast!

The cheap ones have a smaller diameter piston, but that is not the issue. The issue is the top bracket. The cheap replacement doesn't come close to fitting.

If you look at the OEM on top versus the replacement on the bottom, they are not even close in size. Furthermore, my holes would not align with the new one.

Does anyone have a good source for a proper fitting hatch strut?

I bought very economical ones from RockAuto and they have been perfect.

 

Bought the strong arm supports from rock auto They lined up perfectly $16 each plus shipping and tax

 

My recommendation is purchase the replacement that at the most requires replacing the pin/pivot and not the attachments to the body.

OEMs (Lexus/Toyota) will give you the longest life. I could not justify purchasing them so I opted for aftermarket.
