Default Driver window intermittent?

Usually, the driver window goes up and down just fine. Nice and smooth.

Sometimes when hitting the switch, either to go down, or to go back up, it does not respond at all.

Does this sound indicative of a bad switch, or perhaps the motor is intermittent? Any ideas?

It is hard to tell with the switch as to whether or not it is bad. Let me know if anyone else has experienced this and what their solution was.

Thanks!

Probably just the switch, I've changed mine about 3 times now from a salvage yard, finally got one that works really good, just hard to find a good one.

Mine has a mind of its own. It sometimes goes all the way up, and then back down half way! I believe it's the switch.

I have the exact situation. Have gone thru 3 'used' switches from ebay to find a good one.

Have you tried removing the master switch assembly and cleaning it. If it's never been cleaned before, you won't believe all the dust and debris that will be in there. After cleaning mine, I sprayed the innards with silicone, and it worked like new. Still working perfectly now.

Wow, all excellent replies. Thank you!

I have not tried removing it or cleaning it. I will take a look at that and see what I find.

Also, randomly, the passenger window is partially down when coming to the vehicle. We have no idea why. I would think there is no power to the switches when the car is turned off, so I am not sure why the window would be down. We noticed that twice... odd.

I had a similar issue with my LS. After locking the doors with the key fob and returning to the car later in the evening, all four windows would be down an inch or so. Changed the battery in the key fob and haven't had the issue since. I thoroughly enjoy chasing electrical issues but I was ecstatic to not have to dig into that one..

I had the same issue on both front windows on my 2000 RX. I replaced the relay on both boards that are located under the switch panels. You have to use solder wick to remove the current relay and resolder the new one. The relays cost around $35 each. I stumbled across a youtube showing what to do and it worked perfect.
