Key Fob Confusion
I need to reset any keys associated with my car, I have 4 keys but only 3 programmed, and my last key will not program. 2 keys came with the car and both are original keys (Lexus logo), the other 2 I bought off eBay as updated newer versions to my car. I checked the numbers and all match. The key that will not program can be "tricked" and will start my car, but will just not program. I'd like to have a spare for both me and my husband as we both have our own key to my car. Is there any way to do remove any key we don't have so we can program my last key, or remove all keys so we can just reprogram the 4 that we have? Will I need to go to a dealership for this issue? We'd prefer not to go to a dealership if it can be avoided, we don't have the money for that currently. TIA
You can always go the dealer and ask them if something is possible and how much would it cost in parts and labor. Lexus will charge fro diagnosis, but there will be no charge for the answer to the question you are asking here. It will be your choice to accept or walk away.
You must have 'master' key in procession to enable a copy to start the RX first gen. Lexus Logo on the key shell is not a guarantee that the key in procession is registered as a 'master'. The next issue is that you can not have unlimited registered keys. I am not sure but that number could be eight.
Remote function programming is another issue and the FCC marking confirm that the remote is operating on the required frequency for remote operation. Pairing operation makes your RX to respond to your remote(s).
Procedure to make copies is listed in the DIY section.
If the remote is already working for a key I would suggest not to attempt to re-program it.

You can check key registrations with Techstream. If you can find a friend or forum member near you with techstream they can check quickly. You might be at the max number of keys registered due to a previous owner pairing a bunch of keys.
If you're slightly tech savvy, you can try to get techstream running on any laptop you have. The cables are $30-75 and sometimes come with techstream, or you can search for "Techstream in 5 minutes" for an alternative posted on ih8mud.

Step 1
Open the driver's door and close all other car doors. Put the key in the ignition, then remove it.Step 2
Press the door lock switch to "Lock." Within one second, press it to "Unlock." Repeat this step until all the car doors have locked and unlocked five times.Step 3
Close the driver's door, then reopen it. Press the door lock switch to "Lock" again, then within one second press it to "Unlock." Repeat until the door locks have cycled five times again.Step 4
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to "On," then to "Off" within one second. Do this once to enter add mode, twice for rewrite mode, three times for confirmation mode and five times for prohibition mode. If you entered confirmation mode, the door locks will cycle once for every remote programmed. If you selected another mode, the locks will cycle the same number of times that you turned the key.Step 5
Press the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the transmitter for 1.5 seconds. Release them and within three seconds, then press and hold any button on the transmitter for one second. The door locks will cycle once if you have done everything correctly. If you have not, the locks will cycle twice.Close the driver's door to finish programming.
Hi everyone.
I'm trying to reprogram key fob for my 1st gen rx300 after replacing all 4 door actuators.
I've followed all steps and the car seems to accept code (one cycle w/beep) but doesn't seem to accept a signal after I close my driver door (end programming mode).
I was doubting my fob but it seems to transmit a signal for programming, which is what is confusing to me.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
