Sorry I don't fully understand the question?
The front right and left axles have different length and the longer goes through a support. The transfer case ends are same [my best recollection] and they have a snap ring. You have to insert the shaft inside the transfer case, through the seal, till the snap ring clicks into position.
OK. Longer explanation. 2002 RX, AWD. Right front axle cv boot leaking. Ordered replacement from RockAuto. Shoulder injury prevents me from doing this job myself. Took to my trusted independent mechanic. Without removing the bad axle he told me the new one was for a FWD RX, not AWD. I order another one from a different remanufacturer. Same length. Asked mechanic whether isn’t it possible that the inboard stub extends through the transfer case, into the transmission. He thinks no.
i realize the answer will come when old axle is removed, but if he is right we won’t have on hand the correct axle.
So the key question is are the AWD vs FWD right front axle interchangeable? [did I still miss it?]
At times it is better to refer to the passenger and driver side.
If you have not returned the part, hold on to it as you order the "right" part. Then you can make the call. That means a new purchase and return vs exchange.
Note: Be very careful in measuring the length. Due to the geometry of wheel movement the length of the shaft is variable. The CV joint provides the flex in angle as well as length.

Reason: right instead of left.

Why not go to NAPA, Autozone or some other LOCAL store for the axle? Even better is to let your mechanic supply the part. If the part should fail then it is his problem, but if the part that you supply should fail then it is your fault. Yes the axle for a FWD is different than a AWD.
