Sorry but bad battery .. does not count. Dead/dying alternator may count. I did a short stretch with broken belt .. was fun to watch the cluster light up and then fade away.

I don't think so. Thats standard maintenance stuff, not something that leaves you stranded because of an unexpected failure.

Not a big deal on dead battery. Man, mine 99 RX300 is only 131,000 miles. Still young. That idea made me happy.
Happy Holidays to you all, Club Lexus.

Actually, it was a failed alternator.
Had my orig replaced back in 2016 with a
Duralast.
That failed on me a year later. (2017)
This last one lasted 2 yrs 2 months.
So this will be my 3rd replacement.
Upgraded to Duralast Gold instead of the reman they’ve been waranteeing me with.
Hope the durability is better.
Both replacement started whining (electrical whine) 5 months before it went out.

I got stuck on a bad alternator a few months ago. The previous one had a month to go on the warranty so I got the replacement free.
I hope this one lasts longer because taking out that alternator adjusting bolt is a miserable job.
Whoever designed it should have to change alternators every day for a year.

That's not right. Something is killing your alternators.

I traced my alternator woes to bad battery [shorted cell] that took out couple of diodes.

You all know my aversion to aftermarket stuff so I just serviced mine ... replaced the rectifier and installed new brushes. Very simple task.

Some one shared an access point through the side of the radiator. Learnt this after I was done with the alternator/belt. I did invest in a belt tensioner gauge.

Both replacement remans had a failed voltage regulator.
I was informed that these remans, they only replaced bearings, brushes and some contact points.
So im guessing if a core comes back to them, thes tested out whats still “working” and throw it back on a reman.
My battery tested out good each time and have no other load other than a phone charger.
Saw that access area through the front for the adjusted bolt.
Long extension with a 12mm socket.
Dont have a tension gauge but use old school tech.
Try to flip the belt until half way and shes good to go.

I hear you on that lock bolt for the adjuster.
The first time i did this job was around 280k.
Took me freakn over an hour gingerly working the bolt out and try not to snap it.
So putting it back together i applied anti seize grease and used new lock and adjuster bolts.

Takes me less than 15 min start to finish now. 😂
