Changing factory alarm defaults?
Anytime I close the door, locked or unlocked on my 99 RX300 after about 15 seconds the factory alarm kicks in. If I open the door with the key to get in, everything is fine. However, If I just want to run in somewhere real fast and dont want to lock the door and then open it with just the handle to get something out or standing there talking to someone with the door ajar for example, after 10 seconds or so the horn and lights start going off. The only way around this at present it to put the key in the ignition after opening the door everytime before the 10 seconds is up which is a real pain sometimes. Is there any easy way to turn this crap off? If anyone knows the solution to my problem please reply, I am begging you! This is bugging me so bad. Thanks in advance...

Xerox, It sounds like the Alarm system is set to "Passive" arming. In other words, the alarm system sets itself to ON after a period of time automatically.
There is a C-Best Setting for that, that is, it can be programmed back to "Active Mode", which means it works normally (you have to activelly set it by locking the car - just the way you are used to). The setting is: "Theft deterrent Passive arming On / Off"
A dealer can reprogram the C-Best settings. For a complete list of programmable settings, see the FAQs thread at the top of this forum.
Good Luck.

I have this issue as well.
Has anyone succeeded in changing this from passive mode to active?
There appears no setting in my Techstream version to change from passive to active, which I would very much like.
There is an instruction / procedure somewhere on the net involving unlocking and locking the car with key and remote IIRC, but that hasn't worked for me.
Please help.
Thanks in advance,
Johan
