Default Cooling fan seems alittle slow to come on

Cooling fan comes on with a/c, but when ac is not on, cooling fan does not come on? What could that be?

Is your temp gauge near mid point and does it creep up towards 70%. If not, you need not worry about anything.

There is a thermal switch that would kick in the fan and this switch is bridged when AC is turned on.

the temp guage goes to about 70% when the ac is off, this alarms me, because the fan never kicked on. No codes for cooling fan are thrown.

The CEL codes are generally for emission related stuff.

You need to arm yourself with a wiring diagram.

Remove the bottom splash shield and at the lower edge of the radiator, look for thermo switch. Make sure the connector is clipped on properly.

The schematic will show you which wire should be grounded to complete the circuit ... PLEASE CHECK THE DIAGRAM. ALSO KEEP YOUR HANDS AND FINGERS AWAY FROM THE FAN. They run pretty fast.

Dont let you engine over heat and never pop open the cap with the engine hot. Also never add cold water to a hot engine.
If the fan kicks in then the thermo switch is bad.

Note: RX has a temperature sensor and a thermo- switch. Temp gauge is at the top of the engine while there thermo switch is on the radiator.

Final caution: My suggestion are based on my best recollection of the system. You need to verify and take care that you dont get hurt or the wiring gets damaged.

You will loose almost all your coolant, so make sure you have distilled water and coolant concentrate. I would suggest getting an OEM thermo switch. After market may be set to turn on at the wrong temperature.
