High Idle After Battery Died
Please help. I have a 1999 Rx 300. I just got it weeks ago. I have not drive it go to start it clicking.I jump start it and it goes crazy up to 4000 rpm. I try again 5000 rpm I shut it off.The battery ids dead again.I may go buy new battery.I read the car has to relearn the idle I hope this is true since I just got it and need a power steering pressure hose and suspension which I knew when I bought it.It has high mileage 350,000 miles. But it has had a new engine and transmission installed at 150,000 miles. It ran great on test drive and 45 minutes home now this crap.Has anyone had this issue?
Without starting, does the gas pedal operates properly? Not stuck under carpet etc. With the engine shut, pop open the hood and ask an assistant to watch the air-intake wheel move as you press the pedal. Also try moving the wheel [the one that has accelerator cable and cruise control cable] by hand counter clockwise motion. There should be 1/8-1/4 inch slack in the cable.

I will check that. I do not know much about cars as you can see.Nothing is stuck inside the car.Yes the pedal works, I checked the pedal, it was going up high 5000 rpm I shut it off fast.It ran fine then after battery died I jumped it it went crazy.I may take it to this local repair shop and pray they do not charge me alot of money.Thank You for Replying.
I know that but I do not have much cash all the cars in the 1,500 or less range had hi miles. My brother works on my car most of the time he is a body man but can do most repairs the thing is when he has the time which is not often, and he also has a buddy that will work on cars for a bit less than local shops.I only was hoping to drive it until I get a better car.It was fine until the battery died.Someone posted in another forum I read about the car having to relearn the idle after the battery was disconnected is that true at all they said after they got a new battery and drove it for a bit it fixed itself.I hope that is what it is I may buy a new battery i think mine is shot and pray that helps.
Be sure to go to a battery place that can check both the battery and the charging system so that you know if the battery really is dead. Regardless, it doesn't sound like a dead battery problem - sounds like something in the air/fuel metering system is stuck open.

I did everything you told me.I checked all the cables the gas pedal nothing is stuck. The jump was done properly.I think I had both cars off then started the other car let in run for a second then started mine it revved up too high. I threw it into drive it was idling better .I put in park up to 4000.I put in n it stalled out.Did again same thing.I have the battery on trickle charge gonna try it again in 2 days.It has to be something simple I would hope.everything I read comes back to vaccum leak or
I doubt it is vacuum leak [doubt being the key word]
It might be a stuck idle control valve. You may like to disassemble and reassemble it. Making sure the slug can turn 90 degrees.
