1999 RX300 - Fuel Gauge
Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a used 1999 RX300 and after 3 days some idiot rear ended me. Now my fuel gauge is acting up.
The car that hit me was a Hyundai Elantra. His car pretty much slid under my car also slightly denting the tailpipe. It is my belief that he was going roughly 15 - 20 mph when he rear ended me. Now the fuel gauge jumps back to "Full" when it reaches roughly half a tank but I know the tank is not full. The gauge then starts to get lower as I drive the car normally. With that said, could the hit have caused the sending unit to go bad? Am I correct in saying that it is definitely the sending unit? If not, what else could it be?
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

The sending unit is a float in the gas tank.
If you gas tank is deformed, you will get strange readings. Also the connector could have been dislodged partially or the sending unit could have gone bad.
Location ... rear hatch/below the rear seat.

Those are good starting points.
But since it is result of an accident, let the repair be handled by competent facility.
