He must have meant clutch. The relay is not on the compressor.

Default A/C replacement update.

*sigh*. Well, Lindsay the Lexus has the grey death. The entire a/c system needs to be replaced for a cost of 3100.00. Ouch, I only paid slightly more for the vehicle, which at the time the A/C checked out just fine. These things happen. Is it even worth it at this point? I live in San Diego now so a/c isn't needed all the time, but it is nice to have especially on the highway. Also going to shop around to see if that estimate can get nicked down a bit.

So the loose belt and dead relay didn't fix anything? All's not lost...

There's no risk at this point from you doing it yourself. A new condenser is $90, expansion valve $17 and compressor $200 and 134a $20. You can watch a bunch of videos on youtube to learn what to do. You can rent the tools including the vacuum pump at autozone, and system flush kit for free. I wouldn't remove or flush the evaporator in the dash as most all the crud will collect in the condenser up front of the radiator. That just gets tossed away. I will add some links I found helpful. Who knows, you may learn something and have fun doing it. Could grow some hair on your chest too. Lord know there's not many guys out there today that can say that. LOL Anyway, what do you have to lose. I would not spend $3,000 for a new AC system, that's for sure.

The system shows you are in CA if you in or near Orange County go to AC exchange in Garden Grove all they do is air con and their prices are the best. The place isn't much to look at but they have done 2 compressors for 2 of my cars. They also do most of the shops here in Orange County and most of the independent car dealers for the AC work and they have plenty of guys to get the job done fast. Here is a tip
for any of you reading this make sure to run your AC in the winter at least once or twice a week for 10 minutes this will help keep your AC running for years. You can use your defroster or just push the AC button
it will not change the temp your heat will still be warm don't forget to turn it off or you just burn a little more gas. The more you run your AC the longer it last.

The AC will automatically kick in when you use the front defroster. but that is good advice.

Drcoffee, there was no loose belt or relay issue. They found metal glitter in the system. I did find a highly recommended place that is doing it for a bit cheaper and it includes a warranty. I don't have a place to safely do the repair so I am gonna have someone else do it. As far as the lack of hair on my chest, because of my Dutch heritage, hair doesn't grow on my chest. Lol
